Good thing I am supplementing DD's education

It's X week at school.  Her school isn't the greatest and we are moving her in the fall.  But, she usually brings home a few pages she painted with the letter of the week. I am not happy they don't do crafts, so I do some at home with her.  Today, I made the pieces for a xylophone and an x-ray that she can cut and color.

When I picked DD up from school, she had a coloring page from a Disney Channel show in her hand and the teacher said it was because "there is nothing to do for X-so we are coloring Transformers, Octonauts and Hello Kitty."  Ridiculous!

She can do that at home for free!

We don't want to pull her because it's over June 1 and we just moved cross country and want her to finish something. Otherwise, I would totally pull her out tomorrow.

Re: Good thing I am supplementing DD's education

  • That is a joke. I used to teach first grade and have all of my materials from when I  did so for the last year (at least) I've been "teaching" DD at home as well. She started school in the fall and so far I am very pleased with it but I won't stop supplementing from home. Good job, mom!!!

  • I'm with Fred on this one. I agree it was pretty lame of the teacher to claim nothing begins with X, but at the end of the day, that's not really what I am sending my kid to school for right now anyway. It's all about the cookies they bake in cooking class, actually! I get to eat those when she brings them home.

I'm much more interested in DD developing critical thinking skills, learning to play w/ others, follow directions, etc.
