1st Trimester

Has anyone tested earlier?

Has anyone here tested earlier than expected and received their BFP?

My 2WW is right now, and I have about 4 more days to go prior to testing.  I gave myself two days of testing due to ovulation variations (between 25-35days),  I also do not chart.

Should I wait until the testing date, or has anyone been successful testing a few days earlier?

Re: Has anyone tested earlier?

  • I tested 3 days before my missed period and got a BFP. It was 13DPO. I didn't chart either, but used an OPK to determine O. Good luck!

  • So, how many DPO are you then?  Wait - just noticed you said you don't chart.  So how exactly do you know you're in the 2WW if you aren't charting?

  • I'm confused on how you would accurately know when your 2WW is if you aren't charting, but that said, I tested this time around before my missed period simply because I wanted to rule out pregnancy before taking a prescription paid med, and got a (very very welcome) surprise BFP.

No one can really tell you what to do, especially without a chart to go on. Your best bet is to go POAS using an early response test and see what you get. Good luck!

Correct me if I'm wrong, but as I have always understood it the 2ww is the time of conception to an HPT test date (where a positive is possible).

I watched my cycles for the past 6months...so I'm not using BBTs or anything, I'm just paying attention.

To be honest, there has been only 1x in the past 6 weeks that we have had the possibility of conceiving, due to business trips and busy toddlerhood...so...

Right, but the question is, how do you know you ovulated at that point? Even if you "always" have a regular cycle, that does not mean you will continue to do so. Nor does it mean you actually ovulated. If you're not temping, there is no way to confirm ovulation. You can have EWCM and positive OPKs and STILL not actually ovulate in a given month.

This - you cannot 100% know that you ovulated if you are not temping and see a clear thermal shift.  The only other way to confirm you ovulated would be that you see AF.  In which case, you would obviously not be pregnant.  Therefore, you cannot with any certainty say you are in the 2WW cuz you cannot possibly know you definitvely ovulated without charting.

  • I tested 6 days before my missed period and got a very faint result, but i was so sure, and I was right! Test away! Just go buy the huge pack, to save money!

  • The two week wait refers to the 14 days after you ovulate. So the main point is, if you don't know when you ovulated, you don't know when your tww is. For example, I charted and my 3 past cycles I ovulated on CD 16, CD 25 and CD 10. If I wasn't charting I'd have no idea when my two week wait was, or how long my luteal phase is (12 days).

You can test starting 7 days past ovulation, as that is the earliest the egg will implant. You won't get a positive test until after implantation. I didn't get my BFP until 11 DPO, 1 day prior to AF.

Everyone is different, but if I were you I'd test starting 2 days before you expect AF.

  • Tested at 11dpo (or 3 days before my missed period) and got my BFP.  That was the first day I tested that cycle so not sure if I would have gotten my BFP any earlier.

  • I tested 10 days past ovulation and 7 days before missed period and got my positive. CBS just did a big study on the best pregnancy and ovulation home tests. First response early detection got the highest rating so that is what I tested with.

  • I am 5 days before my missed period and I took a test (I used the clearblue digital test) this morning and got a BFP!

  • I got a very faint BFP at 11 DPO which was 2-3 days before the missed period

  • I tested at 3 weeks 4 days and had 3 clear BFPs (as if the first one wasn't enough). The only reason I tested early was b/c my periods were short lately (26 days) so I thought I may have O'd earlier and would get an earlier BFP. I was right.

  • I don't chart either and I understand what you mean by you pay attention to your body. I can tell when I ovulate every month and I felt implantation cramping with all three of my pregnancies. So, if you want to pee on a stick - I say go for it! :)
