I saw it mentioned in a post below and I think I like it. Before I bring it up to DH I was wondering how it is pronounced. Is it see-lah? or Sell-ah? or something entirely different?

I recently found a very old family tree and it turns out I have a Selah in my family from the 1700's which I thought was really interesting. I agree with PPs that I think the true pronunciation is see-lah but I prefer say-lah.

I like it pronounced SEAL-a, kind of like the actress Sela Ward from the 90's tv show Sisters. I'm saying like there is almost a gluttal stop around the "L".

I LOVE Sela Ward so Sela was on my list. I thought it was SEE-lah. Now, there is a Selah at LO's DC, and I also saw a Selah on an episode of Supernanny recently. Both were pronounced SAY-lah.
I think either is fine, really. But I agree with what someone said above - if you don't know how to say it, maybe it's not the name for you.

Thanks everyone. I agree, it probably isn't the name for us. I do think it looks pretty, and like the way it's pronounced ( both ways), I had just never heard of it before.

Re: Selah
I've only heard it pronounced SAY-lah. I don't like SEE-lah as much.
I knew a girl who pronounced it See-lah.
I have to say though, if you need to ask how it is pronounced before you suggest it as a name, it might not be a great choice.
See-lah.
