Cory for a girl?

What do you think of the name Cory Ava for a girl?  My grandma's name was Cora (which I love), but it doesn't really work with Ava as a MN (DH's grandma was Eve).  I love it, but DH has hesitations since our last name starts with a K and he isn't sure about having the alliteration.

Re: Cory for a girl?

  • Personally, I think it's too masculine for a girl.
  • My best friend is Corinne, which I think is a beautiful and feminine name. Her NN is Cori, but uses Corinne in professional settings. I think is uncommon and a great name. But Cory looks masculine.

  • I know one female Cory (spelled Corey) and she's pretty masculine.I personally don't like it at all for a girl.

Why can't you use Cora Eve? I like Cora Eve a lot!

  • My older sisters name is Corina Eve, and we call her Cori. That is always a possiblity cuz it is still close to Cora and it uses the grandmothers name of Eve.

  • I kind of like it, spelled Corrie. I think it's better as a NN for Cordelia, Cornelia, Corrine or Cora, but I think it's fine as a standalone too.
  • I have a friend who goes by Cori, her first name is actually Corinthian. As in the books in the Bible. Her mothers favorite verse came from 1 Corinthians, so that is what she named her daughter.

I can say that for my friend the name fit very well. She is not super girly and is very Indie/boho chic.

I think it is fine as a nn, so if I were you I would look into other names that can have the nn. Many of the PPs suggestions go very well with Eve.

  • I generally don't like boy names on girls, but this one doesn't bother me.  May cousin's daughter is Korei and until I saw this post it never crossed my mind that it was a boy name.  Ironically, I've known a male Cory for over 20 years but I just never thought about it.

I do agree with the others that it may be a better idea to use a longer name and use Cory as the nickname.  I think Corinne Ava flows nicely.

  • I had a friend in HS named Corrie and my coworker named her daughter Kori, so its not unheard of to me. I do think it sound masculine, though, so I prefer it as a nn to Corrine or Corrina.

  • There is something about the name Cory I strongly dislike... even on a boy but worse on a girl. Cora is 1000000000x better IMO. Cora Eve is beautiful. I even prefer Cora Ava over Cory Ava.

Same thing with a friend named Corinda

I like the suggestion of Cora Eve

  • I absolutely LOVE the name Coralie.  Not sure if it would go with your middle name choices, but I thought I would throw it out there.  :)

Also, if you used a longer name as her formal name, you could always use Cora as a nickname.

  • What about Cori to make it more girly?

  • Im not a fan of Cory for a girl..what about your G-ma's middle name?
  • I really love Corrie as a NN for a girl. I worked with two women who went by Corrie, and I thought it was so cute and spunky. However, please use it as a nickname. Corinne, Corinna, Cora, Coraline----but not just plain Cory.

  • I think it is completely unisex. It's fine but it's NMS. Growing up, in my neighborhood we had a boy and a girl Cory.

  • I think the name Cora Eve would be beautiful.  Cory not so much.

This exactly.  I believe both are just Corie and Cori, not being short for anything.  I like the Cori spelling.

  • I know of a couple Corys who are girls but they spell their name Corey. (I assume a girl spelling?)

It's not something I would use but I like it.

  • I know several Coreys that are girls,so I think that is fine.  But I prefer it as a NN. What about using Corine or Coraline as the full name?

Also, I LOVE the name Eve!

I agree with all of this. I have a close friend named Corrie (not a nn), so I think of it as pretty gender neutral.

Also, if you want to use Cora, I don't think the double -a ending is that bad. DD's name is a double -a ending but she has a name we love with a mn for someone we loved and that was important to us. Plus, no one really ever says her full name.

  • My name is Corinne and I have gone by Cori my entire life. I use Corinne professionally and am grateful to have a more professional sounding name, even though people have always thought Cori was "cute". If you do use Corinne please spell it properly- "Corrine" is not the traditional spelling.
