Anyone else's LO not walking yet?

Joshua still isn't really walking.  If we force him he will take a few steps back and forth between DH & I.  When we walk with him holding one of our hands he tries to get away and walk on his knees.  He cruises along the furniture just fine.  I think he is just being lazy.  I called to make his 15mo check-up appt today - We go on 4/3 so if he is not walking by then maybe the doctor can offer an opinion.

  • James has been walking now for about two weeks. He literally went one day not walking on his own, to the next day walking everywhere. I am sure he is fine, just a confidence issue now, he will get there. :)

  • PPs answer fits us to a T. DS had been a stepper, but not a walker. Then BAM two weeks ago he took off across a room. DS is not a risk-taker, so I think it took him awhile to be emotionally ready to walk. Hopefully that cautiousness will stick through the teen years, LOL! It sounds like your guy is like mine--physically able to walk, just taking his time to emotionally prepare. That doesn't seem concerning to me, it seems like a good thing. But, hopefully your doctor will help you feel even more at ease about it.
  • DD does something similar. She is crusing/ takes steps between DH and I/takes a few steps to get from point A to point B but isnt walking full time yet.

My son has OT because of sensory issues, so I asked his therapist about it since she works with kids who are late walkers and she sees DD all the time. She said the "average" for walking is 10-16 months. She said DD is totally fine and even if she wasnt walking at 16 months, as long as she was crusing/taking steps she still wouldnt be very concerned.

She gave me tips to help. She said to pinch the sides of her shirt to help give her some support (but not too much) and encourage her to walk between DH and I a lot. DH will entice her with a toy she really likes and we try to practice that at night.

  • We were right where you were 3 weeks ago, she would take a few steps between people but was content to cruise.  I think something finally clicked because over the past couple weeks she figured out how to stand up without anything to hold onto, and is now toddling all over the place.  He will get there, I don't think you need to worry yet.
