TTC After a Loss

Has anyone used Vitex?

While on our break I would still like to try to keep my cycles as regular as possible. I was just wondering what anyone thought who has experience with Vitex. TIA

Re: Has anyone used Vitex?

  • Yep, I do. It really seems to help regulate my cycle.

How long did you take it for? It is supposed to take about 6 months to work, but for me it started working after about a month. I started it after having a 4 month cycle, it dropped to 37 days then 36 then held steady around 35 days, after my m/cs my cycle length went down to 29-30 days.

  • When I tried vitex (before I was diagnosed with PCOS), I spotted the entire first cycle. I gave it another shot the next cycle... And that was the first cycle I've had that lasted longer than 37 days.

At the time, I thought it was the vitex. I wonder now if it was the PCOS, or the combination of PCOS and vitex.

I tried for nearly 2 years to get pg with #2. In November, I started taking Fertilade, which has Vitex in it. Didn't notice much the 1st month, but the 2nd month, I was back to they cycles I had before I got pg with DS, which was a 24 day cycle, O between days 10-12, 12-13 day LP, and I had the best EWCM I had seen in a really long time. It was also the month I got pg with the peanut we lost. I am giving it another go.

  • I will add that I stopped taking vitex when I had my last af because I was depressed and lazy and stopped all my supplements. I am 21 days in to this cycle and I don't think I have o'd yet. I am starting to take them again today because you reminded me.

I took it for a few months.  My first post m/c cycle was 77 days and then 63, then I started Vitex.  The next cycle was 72 and then 63 (medically ended cycle by taking progesterone).  When I started meds to end the cycle, I quit taking Vitex.  The next cycle I started acupuncture and after a few months now my cycles are back to 28-30 days like clockwork.  I've been O'ing on cd15-16, which is a couple days earlier than prior to my m/c.  So for me vitex didn't work, but acupuncture has done wonders.  GL!

Yeah, I tried it briefly. But I stopped to take homeopathic remedies instead. I am VERY sensitive to anything that's in my system. If there's side effects to be had, I will feel them. I think it's because I have an inner ear disorder. Anyway, I stopped after maybe 2 weeks of taking it because I just had a feeling it wasn't for me. Homeopathy worked much better for me to get my cycle straightened out, probably because it's such mild therapy. Good luck with whatever you decide. The good news is, Vitex is not likely to hurt you in any way, like prescription meds can.

  • I used it for like 9 months - I was BFing my DD and was hoping it would regulate my cycles.  I actually think that was one of the things that caused me so much trouble and actually kept me from getting pg.  Once I stopped, I was pg 2 months later.

This. I took it the first 3 cycles TTCAL. I ovulated in the first one. The 2nd one I had a 40-some odd annovulatory cycle, and the 3rd I ended with provera on CD 90-ish.  I stopped taking it after that.

  • I've taken it for three cycles now since my CP.  The first two cycles I saw no change but this past cycle I  Oed about two days earlier than usual, and earlier that I've ever Oed before (usually O day 19-20, sometimes later and I Oed CD17 last cycle).  Who knows if it was the vitex, but I'm going to continue taking it and hopefully I will see an improvement in my LP too!

  • I've never take Vitex but I started drinking Raspberry Leaf Tea and it really helps to keep my cycle regular.  If I forget to drink it (like I have the last week or two) my "O" seems to be delayed.  If I drink it regularly I usually am right on schedule.

That is definitly helpful! I think I will wait til I find a new doctor and see what their treatment plan will be. I will just fly by the seat of my pants for a while and enjoy my "freedom" lol. However I may try this tea to try to keep my cycles in check a little. Thank you all so much this was very helpful!

  • If you decide you want to try the Vitex, let me know. I have an unopened bottle that I would be happy to send you. I was toying with the idea of taking it to help lengthen my LP, but then decided that my cycles aren't actually all that wonky and I didn't want to risk really messing them up.

  • Hi, I used Chasteberry capsules to regulate my cycle 2 months before we started ttc. It helped a lot because my cycle was reduced from 35days to 32 days, I didn't have bad cramps and I didn't spot with a week of spotting before AF as per usual.

I stopped taking it when I fell pregnant. I also took it without consulting a Homeopath :( For now, I'm not taking anything, 1st cycle since mc was 35 days again.

Please consult a homeopath to be sure and advise if you using any other meds. Good luck!!!! :)

  • I got off of my bcp last year about this time and we immediately started ttc. About 4 months later, I still hadn't had a period and went to the doctor. I was diagnosed with pcos and did two rounds of clomid that did nothing. I started going to a chiropractor about three months ago on a bimonthly basis and he recommended an herbal suppliment which include vitex and Dong Quai. I have only been on it for a few days but I am hopeful that it will help. I haven't had a cycle on my own since before I went on bcp almost two years ago. (I was only on it for a year)

  • my periods are very regular, until I got depo for 2years with no periods then they became irregular. first cycle off depo lasted 51 days. 2nd cycle lasted 45 days. decided to take 1200mg vitex to get my period and it came the very next day7/18. only lasted 4days. I am hoping to get bfp this cycle
