Ok so I know that breastfeeding can make your LO fall asleep and become comatose during feeding, but is it normal for this to happen to mom? I just started nursing my son three days ago and now during every feed I get the sudden urge to fall asleep! It is very inconvenient since I am usually waiting for him to fall asleep so I can get some things accomplished. Don't get me wrong, I love the feeling of being so close to him and I enjoy breastfeeding, but could there be something wrong with me? Any suggestions on how to avoid falling asleep during nursing?

I just nursed lying down and slept while he slept. You need a lot of rest to recover - don't push right away to get everything back to normal. It takes a few weeks for your body to be able to do it all again.
It is a hit of oxytocin that makes you sleepy and relaxed.

Yes it releases hormones that make you feel really sleepy. They kept the NICU really warm and I remember a couple times thinking I needed someone to go down there with me just to keep me awake! Even now that I don't get the sleepy feeling I feel a little woozy after I pump or nurse.
