Cloth Diapering

What's so special about wetbags?

I plan to use a regular old pillow case in a garbage pail in the basement (by the washer), but wanted wetbags for the living room, bedroom and diaper bag. Now that I see they are $20-30 a bag I am reconsidering. Is the only important feature that it is waterproof? I don't need the bag to be large, so maybe I could just buy a few make-up bags or lunch bags or something to avoid buying 3 wetbags? I would be using these bags for short-term storage of dirty dipes so I don't have to run into the basement with every dirty diaper. What do you ladies think? Thanks!

  • You can use anything. Even a plastic grocery bag. Doesn't have to be fancy.

  • I've been using a regular nylon laundry bag hung on the doorknob by the changing table and it works fine. If your only sticking 2 or 3 diapers in you could use one of those reusable shopping bags that you can wash, or a canvas tote even. They wouldn't be waterproof but it's not like the diapers are dripping wet where its going to actually leak, just wick to the outside. I use plastic grocery bags when I go out.

  • They're waterproof, keep the stink in, washable (just dump the CDs in the washer and throw in the bag too), usually have a handle for hanging, and come in cute patterns/colors.  :)

You don't have to buy expensive ones!  Keep an eye out for sales on popular brands, check babysteals.com for cheap but cute bags, or buy from a local WAHM. My local cd shop sells bags from a WAHM.  They're inexpensive and adorable.

Do whatever works for you. :)

  • It is nice to have something waterproof when you start spraying or dunking dipes. They get pretty wet and would soak through a pillow case. Are you crafty? You can buy some PUL and make your own. I know it seem like a lot up front but you can buy a pail liner for under $20 and that's really all you need for your whole time CDing.

  • I used pillow cases in a garbage bag at home no problem.  I used a small wet bag when out and about and I had a large one when traveling - but they are not needed especailly around the house.

  • I use a gallon ziploc bag.  All the benefits of a wetbag (minus cute designs), none of the expense.  Plus if it starts smelling after a few uses, I can just either rinse it or get another one.

At home, I use a laundry bag from wal-mart.  The bag gets wet since it's not waterproof, but it can go in the wash with the diapers since it's just cotton.  We use a trash can with a lid that I rinse out once a month, so it contains the stink.

  • Check out alvababy.com - they've got wetbags for $5 - they're big enough to hold about 4 - 5 CDs and come in a whole range of solid colours plus a few prints. Shipping is free too, though does take a bit long since they come from China.
