Sooo sick of my moody coworker....

I have a coworker, who I also hang out with out of work on occasion.  Recently, she is so moody.  You can be talking to her one minute and then the next she jumping down your throat.

To make it worse, she really can be bossy and condescending.  I have been with my job for 4 years.  I have been in my current position for a little over a year.  She has been with job and the position for about 18 months.  Basically, it's not like she has tons more experience than I do.  Even though I was in a different position prior to this one, I still had a lot (all day, every day) exposure to this one.  I would maybe even go as far as to say that I have more experience than her.  I think this may be like her third job also - she's 23 and I am almost 30.  Maybe her age has something to do with it?  Not sure.

Yesterday, she yelled at me, not once, but twice.  Finally, I had had enough.  I turned around and told her to stop talking to me like that.  I don't think she expected it.  She can be a bit of a bully.  Even coworkers who went to school with her, have mentioned she was also this way in high school.  I steered clear of her for the rest of the day.  She tried talking to me, I gave her short one word answers.

I am not one to hold a grudge, but I don't want her to think she can talk to me like that.  I also don't want to run and tattle to the supervisor, so I am hoping it's just a phase. It's been going on about a month or so.  I am going to see how the next few weeks go.  If it doesn't stop, I am going to talk to her about it out of work and see how it goes.

  • My advice is to TALK to her.  Gently/ nicely, but instead of giving her one word answers and avoiding her, do her a favor and TALK to her.  Tell her why you were upset.  Let her talk too - she what she has to say.  But use this as maybe a chance to mentor her a little.  She's young - she could probably use a little guidance on appropriate behavior at work.
