FP Rock & Play? Do I need one?

So these things came out since DD was born, and apparently they're the greatest.  Opinions?  I don't think I need one (plan to cosleep with baby, use pack & play or swing downstairs during the day).  Am I missing something here?  I'm thinking my 2 year old DD might have a little too much fun rocking her little brother anyway :)

  • I know people rave about them, but I never thought it was necessary for my little guy, and we got buy just fine with the pack n play, crib, and swing for nap time and bedtime.

  • I wouldnt say you *need* one. For a reflux baby maybe. I thought it was amazing though. Both my kids slept much longer stretches in it vs lying flat (even my baby who didnt have reflux). I got use out of it with 2 kids though and will have it for a 3rd as well so its been a good investment I think. Great for traveling as well.

  • You can definitely get by without one but it is a great piece of equipment for the $50 or so. It is also a lot lighter then the p'n'p for traveling!

  • I would wait.  Although mine quickly became my FAVORITE new baby product, they aren't necessary for all babies.  I got one after DD refused to sleep anywhere except in my bed or in my arms.  The RNP cradles them as if they are being held.  DD loved hers and slept in it next to my bed from 5 wks-5 months.

  • Thanks ladies!  I'm a sucker for baby gear that makes my life easier... may have to get one if I find a good deal.

  • We LOVED ours! Used it for 5 months! I only wish we had it with DS too. I say its defiantly necessary.

Considering they are pretty cheap compared to most baby gear, I would definitely recommend it.  DS slept in his next to my bed for two months, it was great for travel up until about six months.

This exactly, but I wanted to add that I used it instead of a swing/bouncer, not in addition to.  If you already have one of those it would be overkill.

I had a swing/bouncer still and still got one. Embarrassed

Both my kids hated the swing though, and I couldnt see letting them sleep in a bouncer in that position for long periods of time.

I think it serves a different purpose than those products. I used it more as a cosleeper.

  • My girls LOVED them! It was the only piece of baby gear I had to have two of for the twins. It was so nice to have somewhere safe to put them when we were out that literally set up w/ the push of two buttons. It was awesome to have something that kept them up off the floor and away from their overly energetic 2 year old brother. They really don't rock that fast even w/ 2 year old strength LOL! All 3 of mine HATED the swing and bouncy seats, and I wish they'd had this when DS was little! I know you're planning on cosleeping, and depending on your older child for this reason alone I'd suggest getting it. DS coslept, and even though he was in a sidecarred crib by the time the girls were born we used the rock n plays for the girls at night because I was paranoid DS would climb into our bed and lay on one of the girls... so this way I had somewhere were the girls were close and safe, but not in our bed. Once they were bigger we'd just leave them in bed with us. Even now there are mornings I wake up to the twins between DH and I and DS w/his head on my legs and his legs over DH's legs... 5 in a queen is always a fun time.

It was a definitely a neccessity in this house.  Be careful though as it can cause a bit of a flat head.  We had to line the middle with blankets.

I had a reflux baby and she slept SO well in that thing.  Lifesaver.
