In and of itself I actually don't hate this name at all and rather like it, but there are too many "Blaze"s out there for me to get on board with "Blaise" anymore. Like "My kid is BLAZE! He's a badass!!!"
I really like this name, but can't get past the meaning! I guess my naming style is sort of like "diamond in the rough" or classic unpopular names.... so I'm always searching for that perfect name!
I don't like it because it reminds me of the word "blas?" which means (per Merriam Webster) "apathetic to pleasure or excitement as a result of excessive indulgence or
enjoyment".
Also I have no clue how to pronounce it. Is it like "blaze"? I think you would run into trouble with that.

Interesting that you would say that. There is a student at the school where I work whose name is Blase, pronounced like Blaise. However, every time I type it in Word or Excel, it autocorrects to Blas?. Poor kid.
Like PPs have said, I want to like it but I can't because of the children out there named Blaze. Those parents are trying WAY too hard. Have you considered Blaine?

Egh... I dunno know about Blaine. We live in Maine... LOL
I really dislike it. Sounds like trying too hard to be cool... sorry, not saying that is what your intentions are, that's just my impressions of it and I'm not into that style.
Not a fan although I'm pretty biased because my ex bf of 3 years before meeting DH's name was Blaise. His parents were really weird too. Like hippies or something.
There was a Blaise in DD's daycare and he was the cutest thing ever, so I've loved the name since then. We even have a Baby Blaise doll now b/c of him. lol
It is NMS but I think there is a St. Blaise. I'm not Catholic but I had a friend who was and she mentioned going to mass on St Blaise's Day for a blessing of the throat? Is anyone out there Catholic who can tell me if she was pulling my leg?

"And can it be that in a world so full and busy, the loss of one weak creature makes a void in any heart, so wide and deep that nothing but the width and depth of vast eternity can fill it up." - Charles Dickens
I really like this name a lot. To me, it's unique without being crazy, ugly-sounding, or just made-up. I can totally picture this name fitting a baby, child, teen, and adult. I say go for it!
Edit: Wow, am I like the only person who really likes it? That usually doesn't happen, haha.

Yes, there is a St. Blaise, yes, some parishes have a blessing of the throats on his feast day.
I like it because it is a saint's name, but it isn't one I'd use.

I love the name, alas, my husband does not.
I first heard it in the Harry Potter series (Blaise Zabini [Slytherin, by the way]).

I agree.
My friends have a dog named Blaze.
Also, there was an American Gladiator (back in the early 90s) names Blaze.
Obviously different spellings, but names are spoken much more often than they are written, so most people will not know that it is Blaise.
One last thing, Richard Blaise is a fantastic chef.
this
American gladiator, dude.
NO.

I definitely think it is a strong name.
