My OB didn't mention it, but I asked if I could/should get one. She said I could and should as it can protect the baby for 6 months. She gave me a note saying I can get a mercury-free flu shot, but so far I'm having trouble finding someplace in town with mercury-free shots.
I've always heard that it's recommended for pg women and children - kids can't get them until they are 6mos so by you getting one now, it will protect the baby until next year when they are old enough for their own. Or something like that...
My OB's office has it posted all over the place that they recommend the flu shot - they'll give us free ones here at work, but I just have to have a note from the Dr. saying it's ok.
Yep, both DH and I did. I have never gotten one before, but my OB said because baby is born during flu season, it's HIGHLY recommended that I we get it. It was a piece of cake!
I got one last week. I have gotten them for the past 10 years b/c I work in a hospital. My OB strongly enouraged me to get one since the baby will be born in semi flu season.

I usually don't get it, but I did get it at the OB's office this year. It was VERY strongly encouraged by my practice since the baby is very susceptible and can't get the shot for 6 months. I believe we have a good chance of passing the antibodies along with breastfeeding. So many people have been sick at work and I haven't had anything so far...not sure if it has anything to do with the shot though.
For those who have gotten them already, did you get mercury-free? I didn't realize it would be so hard to find them. When I ask, the people giving the shots are never sure, then they go check with someone else, and end up saying I need to go somewhere else.
There's a flu shot clinic at work on Monday - I emailed ahead and asked if they'll have any of the mercury-free versions and they will, so that's what I'm going to do.
The nasal inhalent one is NOT recommended for pg women because it contains the live virus. The injectible shot is OK for pg women, I'm going for the mercury-free version because I've seen several sources recommending that version if you can get it.
I got one. I get one every year because I am asthmatic. The possible complications from getting the flu are quite scary (for both baby and myself). I've never had any problems except the crummy feeling for a day or so afterwards.?
My midwives advised me NOT to get one since I've never had a flu shot before and could react badly to it. There's only been one study that says a baby can benefit from the Mom getting the flu shot, so it didn't outweigh the risk as far as I was concerned.

Two appts. ago my mid-wife recommended it so I got it. It is generally recommended for pg. women.
I don't normally get one either, but it's not just about us as individuals anymore, you know?
