Multiples

New here

Hello, I am new here.  I am looking for a supportive group to chat with.

About myself, I am a 35...almost 36 (yikes!) SAHM who is 26 weeks pregnant with twins.  They are fraternal (boy/girl) and conceived naturally. I have 3 other children,  a step daughter who is almost 6, a daughter who is 5 and a son who is 2.  I have a wonderful supportive husband who works 12 hour nights.  He is great with the kids (100% hands on) but, awful at helping keep the house clean.  Normally that isn't a big deal but, I really could use the help right now.  I am so scared and overwhelmed right now.  I know a lot of it has to do with hormones but I am also not a FTM and know whats in store for me!  I hope to meet some great people here and find out some helpful information on how to raise multiples AND a large family.

Thanks

Re: New here

  • Welcome and congrats! I know what you mean about the housework- 26 weeks is definitely when it starts to get challenging to get around and do anything productive! I hope you can get some help with that, whether it's from your husband or someone else (maybe another relative? or could you consider hiring someone just to come a few times?). I hope you have a smooth ending to your pregnancy and enjoy your two new LO when they arrive- it's crazy but tons of fun!

**A friendly word of caution: you will find that people prefer the word "spontaneous" to "natural" when talking about how you conceived your babies. Not a big deal but something to keep in mind for the future Wink

  • Congrats on the twins.  Hopefully you can figure out a system that works for everyone for house chores.  I have 2 kids already and a husband that works crazy long hours, so it's always a crazy balancing act!

  • Welcome. Smile

My circumstances are different, but I hired someone to come in and do the mopping and scrubbing every week and plan to keep her around until my babies are at least six months old and I have my wits about me again.  If there's any way you can swing that financially, or do a kid swap with a friend so you each have a few kid-less hours to tidy up and catch up on errands in peace, I really think it would save your sanity.  It's definitely an added expense we weren't really planning on, but it's short term and much needed for the time being.

  • Welcome and congratulations on your twins!

Around 25 weeks we hired a cleaning lady who comes twice a month.  It's a huge help even now.  If it's in your budget I recommend it!

  • Congrats and welcome! :)  I don't have other kids at home but I am a full time (47-50 hours a week) nanny for a family with 5 kids.  I have found that after picking up their house and after their kids all day my house is a disaster!  I had a meltdown about it last week and decided that as long as no one is coming over I'm not going to worry about it as much as I used to.  I am a clean freak by nature (and thanks to my totally neurotic mother :)  but if I need to sit down at night I'm not going to feel bad about the floors needing to be mopped.  I have also found that if I do need to get something done cleaning wise if I do it first thing in the morning I am a lot more productive.  And about the friendly warning about using "natural" vs. "spontaneous", she's serious.  I learned that one the hard way!!! :)  Congrats again!
