Generic Diapers or Brand name?

My baby is due in a month and so far I only have two packs of diapers because I know different diapers work on different babies. I've bought Pampers Swaddlers because so many people recommend them. I used a coupon on both packages, but even with a coupon the store brand is cheaper. Has anyone had success with generic diapers? If so, which ones? I'm having a boy if that matters. Thanks!

  • I like target brand but stilll prefer pampers because they are softer. I also like luvs and with coupons are cheaper than some store brands.

  • We used Pampers Swaddlers and Huggies size nb-1.  Once DS was in a size 2 we switched to Target Brand diapers and love them!

  • I've used every kind of diaper and for me and my LO they worked about the same.  I think that as long as you change your child often then there is a less of a chance for leaks.  My favs are Walmart Parents choice (11 cent per diaper), Target Up&Ups(12 cent per diaper), & Walgreens Premiums (11 cent per diaper)

  • I like the Pampers Swaddlers for when babies are small and are exclusively breast or formula fed. The Swaddlers contain everything better at this stage! Once they are well established on solids, Target's Up & Up brand are great! We use Luvs now as well, and even though they are not generic, I can get just as good of a deal on them as I do the Target ones.

  • I would recommend ordering some swaddlers from Amazon mom in size 1. We used swaddlers in NB & size 1 for a short time before switching to Luvs when she hit size 2. We didn't order our NB size on Amazon because to get the really discounted rate you need to order a huge case and depending on your baby's size you may or may not need that many. We didn't need very many because DD grew very quickly!

  • I used Pampers Swaddlers up through size 2 then I switched to Target brand after the Size 3 Pampers were giving my son a rash,  The rash disappeared just 2 days after switching diapers aftetr trying every cream and potion out there.

  • We had NO luck with generics when DD was a newborn...we preferred Pampers or Huggies.  We then went full-time to Huggies because they fit DD better.  Now that she's bigger, we're able to use generics if we get them (DH's aunt like to buy us diapers randomly).  Luvs works for us now, too.

  • I liked Pampers & Luvs when DS was an infant.  Closer to a year (in size 4 and now 5), I started liking Huggies for overnight, but I also use Costco brand, and actually the Aldi brand (Lullabies) if you have an Aldi... they are cheap but work fine.

  • I love Target's brand.  It's by far my favorite generic brand and such a great price.  I also love the brand Luv's.  I can get them for the same price as Target on Amazon so I get those.  If I need a pack of diapers on the fly, I'll go to Target.

I hate Walgreen's generic brand.  I think they are pretty bulky compared to others and didn't fit DD that well so it leaked.  If you happen to be in TX the HEB Hill Country Fare brand of diapers are pretty good too.

  • We did Pampers Swaddlers until this past month (DD is 8 months), and just switched to Target's Up & Up brand.  Target's are definitely not as soft, however they are great diapers and do the job, for cheap! For our next baby we'll do the same- switch to Target once baby hits size 3.
