Preemies

Calling all new preemie moms

Have you checked out the blog for this board? Its linked in my siggy and on our main page.

What did you find helpful?

What can we add to make it more useful for you?

Do any of you want to write an article for the blog? What would you like to write?

The three of us who manage the blog have older preemies now so I want to make sure it is useful for those of you in the NICU phase too!

Re: Calling all new preemie moms

  • Not a new preemie mum but this post and lwmooney's post reminded me of something I was thinking about the other day.  We need a "pregnant after preemie" section.  Some ideas for posts that were floating through my mind were:

    •  How/when did you decide you were ready for a second?
    • Questions to ask your doctor before trying for another.
    • How to deal with people's questions/opinions about having another preemie.
    • Talk about how some of us feel like we would treat the second pregnancy as a "redo" of the previous one.
    • If you had another preemie how did you deal with it?
    • If you made it farther in your second pregnancy how did you deal with passing that mark.

I think it would be awesome if there was info about good places to buy preemie-specific items like clothes, formula, bottles etc. With my specific circumstance, I would love info on IUGR. My girls weren't that premature so I feel kinda dumb posting here, but Kathy was only 3 lb 5 oz and more like a 31 weeker than a 36 weeker. It would be nice to read similar stories.

Don't feel that way. I went into labor at 36 weeks & 5 days it stalled (er I didn't dilate anymore so they sent me home) and then I was re-admitted hours later when my water broke. DS was born at 37 weeks after a 13 hr labor, hence a full termer. The ladies here still endure my posts. Wink He was IUGR. The only issues we had were in the very very beginning with his bilirubin levels. After we got that squared away he had issues gaining weight but now at his 6 month appt he weighed in at 15lbs. He has been hitting milestones but it seems it may take a bit longer for him then others.

**I should add that my questions are most often about the IUGR. I tried posting on  high risk and I never got a response there, or on my month board. The only place I got a response was here, so this is your best bet for questions relating to that. If you have any questions you can certainly page me. I am on the swap spot and lurk in the September boards.

Yeah, what she said!  Even though your girls were born later than my boys, you still have your own struggles and NICU journey.

All preemie moms are welcome...unless you're a faker Wink
