Hello. Wanted to get some advice. I was checking out pre-school daycare centers on Monday for my almost 4 year old. My niece goes to this one so I went there first. 2 things sturck my oddly. 1. There was a huge dog running around that the director said wasnt always there and that she had to take home. The dog was running freely around all the kids. 2. The boys and girls have to go to the restroom 2 at a time and there is only 1 potty. So the bathroom door was open and the boys both had their parts haning out peeing in the potty at the same time. A little wierd?
Other than that it was an ok place. I am still looking around but wanted to get others opinion on epecially the potty thing. DH thinks this is too wierd and that even a 4 year old needs bathroom privacy.
Re: 2 at a time go to potty at the preschool center? Advice?
They were both peeing in the same toilet at the same time??? That is very strange. At the preschool my kids go to, the 3 year old bathrooms have stalls with no doors. The 4 year old bathrooms do have doors on the stalls.
The large dog running around is also weird.
Exactly this, inlcuding the potty set up at our school
The doors being open at this age at our pre-school doesn't bother me but I wish there were different bathroom areas for the younger and older kids. But it is a really small school...
The dog wouldn't fly with me. It smacks of an unprofessional environment. Sounds like this is the Directors dog yes? So does she bring the dog in if she's had to take it to the vet, or cant' get home to let it out or something? IDK, but that's just weird.
The potty thing, well it sounds like they are trying to do a buddy system. My guess would be to help the kids stay on track, do their business, get their hands wash and find their way back. Even at that young age a little peer pressure can ensure a child isn't goofing off, doesn't forget to wash their hands ect. If you really like the place I'd ask for the logic behind the 2 kids to the potty thing. If two boys were peeing together, ehh I'm guessing they were sent as buddies and thought it would be cool. I have a 4 and a 3 and my 3 races to the bathroom if he sees brother heading that way screaming for him to wait because he wants to pee with him, they just think it's funny to have pee races
yeah....a dog running around is not ok. even if the dog is "completely child safe". there is no such thing. all dogs and children need to be supervised together. i would not send my kid to a place with a dog running around.
and 2 kids peeing in the same toilet at the same time...yeah weird. there is no way around that one
~after 34 cycles we finally got our 2nd little bundle of joy~
My IF blog
Ditto everyone else - all weird and unacceptable to me.
For the 3 and up kids @ DD's school, they have separate boys and girls bathrooms w/ 3 stalls each, but no doors. I'm totally fine w/ that arrangement. 2 boys peeing in one potty is gross and not a good habit IMO.
Unrestrained dog at the preschool - no thanks! I COULD be OK w/ the dog being there in the director's office if it wasn't a regular thing. .. . but running around - no that's not good for anybody and shows a serious lack of professionalism/thoughtfulness, etc.
At our daycare, there is a room of maybe 8 or so potties with no dividers. I think up until they turn about 3 1/2 they kind of take the girls and then take the boys - but it's always werided me out. DD told me that her friend goes potty standing up and asked if she could do that too and I told her only boys do that and we're lucky as girls we get to sit down and relax while we go potty. I'm waiting for the question about the other parts!
Both would be a deal breaker for me. The dog thing- animals are unpredictable and you have no way of knowing if that dog has had it's shots, etc. I'm sure a state inspector would have a big problem with that. The potty thing- open doors I understand and have seen in many (most) places. Peeing in the same potty at the same time is not ok, and again, I bet an inspector would flip out. I think we all know how little control even grown up boys have over their pee. I'd think that 8 times out of 10 the boys probably end up at least splattering each other. yuck.
Keep looking. You'll find a place that doesn't give you the heebie jeebies.
Peeing in the same potty at the same time? Weird.
A dog running around- deal breaker.
At DS1's current preschool children must privately go to the bathroom alone. There is a bathroom inside the classroom though. At the school he'll go to next year an adult accompanies a child to the bathroom down the hall and waits outside.
