I'm looking for the best baby carrier out there that allows me to carry my newborn on my chest (both towards me or facing out) or on my back. I'd really prefer something that has great lower back support too.
I'm on the fence between the Ergo and the Becco Baby Carriers. I'm pretty sure the Ergo doesn't let you carry your baby on your back, or allow the baby to face out though.
I'll have a newborn and a two year old so I really want something that will survive constant use but also be comfortable for me to wear.
Any favorites out there?
Re: Best Baby Carrier? Multi-positions
I have an ergo and love it. You cant wear baby facing out, but that's generally not recommended anyway. You can do a high back carry and give LO the same view though.
With the ergo you can do a hip carry, back carry, high back carry, and front carry. It's really awesome.
We love our Moby and our Ergo (as everyone else already said). With my son I didn't feel comfortable with him on my back in any carrier until 8-9 months when I knew his neck was plenty strong and I trusted myself to get him on there.
Personally my favorite right now is a ring sling (Maya Wrap). I never liked it with my son and it does have a learning curve, but I like it better than the Moby because of easy in/out and better than the Ergo right now because it's just more snuggly.
I also tried on a Mei Tei once and it wasn't as comfortable for me as the Ergo, but I liked that it was ties so it was easily adjusted, could fit multiple people. I also liked that the bottom of the seat could be cinched together to be narrower. That allows it to be more comfortable for smaller babies and also theoretically they could face out (though as PP said, it's not recommended).
Check out natural parenting type stores and see if they will let you try some on with your baby to see what you like.
