Good sleep vs. Bad sleep

Does anyone else's LO seem to be more grumpy after a good night sleep than a bad one? I just don't get it! My DS is very often miserable, but sometimes I notice his best days are when I least expect it, such as after a bad sleep. For example, 2 nights ago DS woke up at 3:45 to go potty, but was also convinced he was up for the day. We finally got him back down, only to have him wake again at 4:45 and 5:45, and then at 7:00 for the day. Obviously this was a terrible sleep, but he was in a surprisingly good mood yesterday, played really well with DD, etc. Last night we put the LOs to bed at 7 pm (a little earlier than usual due to the previous nights poor sleep, a busy day, and zero napping). DS slept straight through from 7pm to 7 am! (It's not uncommon for him to get up at least once a night, so this was a treat!) But today he's been so miserable! He's saying he's tired, acting tired, etc. Oh, and he doesn't nap. He dropped those when he turned 2 and despite "quiet" time everyday, he will not nap anymore.

Anyway, can anyone else relate? Or is DS the only one that seems to (sometimes) function best on less sleep?

Re: Good sleep vs. Bad sleep

  • Hmmm, I haven't noticed that correlation between bad sleep and good mood with DD.  I have noticed, however, that sometimes she just wakes up on the wrong side of the bed and is grumpy all day.  Other times she complains about being tired even though she seemed to sleep well the night before.  Who knows!  I haven't figured out if there is a pattern to it yet.
