Two Under 2

Advice Needed for those that had c/s!

Hello! I will have 2 under 2 by mid May and I am looking for a little advice. I will be having a repeat c/s with this baby. My recovery from my first c/s was overall good, so hopefully it will be this time as well. However I do have concerns regarding my toddler who will be 21-22 months old at the time baby arrives.

She is a big girl (almost 28 pounds), I know I will have lifting restrictions and will not be able to lift her up for things like nap and in the morning out of bed. Has any one had success transitioning a toddler this young into a toddler bed?

I can get some help from my mother for a while after the birth, but DH cannot take any time off of work. It is just not doable to have the two of us off of work for a long period of time. DH and I thought that maybe we could start transitioning DD to a toddler bed next month in order to help with this situation.

Any advice would help please!

  • My LO1 started sleeping in a toddler bed when he was 18 months, and a twin sized bed by the time he was 26 months.  We had no problems at all.  At 18 months we just dealt with a few nights of him sleeping on the floor.  At 26 months we just explained to him to be a good boy and it would make us happy and he has never once gotten out of the bed.

  • DS1 started sleeping in a twin bed at 13.5 months and we are about to transition DS2 into a twin bed (he's 17months). After DS2 came, it really helped that DS1 (who was 15 months but 26lbs) could get into/out of his bed and climb into the car himself. He also could go up and down our stairs himself so I didn't have to pick him up that much. By week 2 there were times I had to pick him up and it wasn't a big deal. I just tried to limit it.

  • Thank you ladies! I think we are going to make the transition to her toddler bed. I think it would make it much easier then having to lift her into her crib.
  • Until the lifting restriction is lifted and if I don't have any help for whatever reason during those initial weeks, we'll just have Connor's crib mattress on the floor or he'll sleep in bed with me (he can use an ottoman to climb up while I'm there with him).

    I'll love you forever,
    I'll like you for always,
As long as I'm living my baby you'll be.
