2nd Trimester

going #2

I have been getting constipated lately and sometimes when i am "going #2" and "pushing"  (sorry if TMI), I feel like its going to hurt the baby.  Is this a legitimate worry or am I being ridiculous?!

  • Take Colace and up your water, veggie and fruit intake. This is totally normal, especially during second trimester and ESPECIALLY if you are taking Zofran for morning sickness.

  • Going #2 has been a problem for me since about 2 months in... so about 4 months now.  I have to take Milk of Magnesia at night right before bed once or twice a week to clear everything out.  The MoM works well.  After you take 2 mg then down at least 8 oz of water.  You should have movement without straining the next day.

     I can't wait till I can poop like a normal person again! LOL!  I might have to wait till this pregnancy is over tho.  Oh well....  the weirdness of being prego!

  • As long as I continue to OD on fruit and eat whole grains (which I add flax seed to), then I'm okay, but once I listen to those eat the donut, eat mac n cheese, eat crap... cravings, then it's all over!  I don't think you'll hurt the baby by straining, but you'll definitely hurt yourself and cause hemmoroids.

  • Totally normal. I have been taking metamucil at night to prevent such issues.
  • I have been using Miralax this entire pregnancy.  I have had issues all my life but, it is ten times worse while pregnant.  The Miralax works like a charm.  My dr. told me if was safe to take daily.

    Ha ha funny, I have been on Zofran for 6 days and more backed up than I thought possible.  Glad to hear colace is safe!

  • I make a strawberry banana smoothie every morning with OJ and yogurt.  Always gives me plenty of fiber and I have no trouble going anymore!  I drink a crazy ton of water too.  I'm always so thirsty!
