opinions on the name Ian

i posted about Lucas Preston the other day and got mostly good responses, but some of you thought Preston sounded pretentious. i kind of agree.

so we are re-thinking our baby name. what do you think of Ian and what middle name would go well with it? our last name starts with W and is one syllable. big bro is Devin Elijah. thanks!

You could do Ian Lucas. I am a big fan of Preston I don't think it sounds pretentious at all. I think they are both super cute names though. Good Luck!!

I like Lucas Preston much better then Lucas Ian.. Ian is NMS, and I dont think it flows very well. Do you have any family names you could use for the MN

the only family name i would want to use is Henry, my grandfather, but dh is "eh" on that name. Lucas Henry was my original idea.

we were kind of thinking Ian Lucas, but i want some ideas other than Lucas. i feel like i have been stuck on that name and want a fresh idea.

Ian is okay. I don't mind it, don't love it. Love Lucas though. Don't like Preston. Lucas Ian does not sound that bad IMO.

Ian's a great name.  It's actually my brother's name, and if it weren't I'd name my own boy that (or one of my boys, anyway). As for a middle name, it works with anything that starts with a consonant..preferably something that's two syllables.

How do most of you pronounce Ian? When I was in hs, I had two of them. One was eye-an and one was eee-yan. I honestly dont know which is correct, but prefer eye-an.

I've only ever heard Ian pronounced 'eee-ahn', myself.

I like Ian, I have a few friends with the name though so I wouldn't use it myself.
Most of the Ian's I know are either Ian James, Ian Robert, or Ian Scott.

I like Ian Scott best myself, but some other ideas that tie in with your older boy's name are:
