VBAC

Questions on chance of VBAC

Hi everyone, I had to have the first c/s due to ds being very distressed when I when in to be induced at 41.1 weeks. I was having very mild contractions when I went in, I didn't know I was having any. I had also be dilated 2cm for over a week. His heart was dropping very low everytime I had one of these mild contractions. As soon as my doc came into see me, she ordered an ultrasound and it showed that he had moved up and had the cord wrapped around his neck. So I ended up having a c/s in October 2010.

Now I am 11 and a half weeks pregnant with twins and I would really like to be able to have a VBAC because I had problems healing last time and I will have three little ones at home this time. So I was wondering if anyone on here knows of anyone thats had twins that was able to have a successful VBAC, thank you.

Re: Questions on chance of VBAC

  • I don't, but wanted to say good luck!  My clinic won't induce and VBAC.  And, I would imagine with twins they would be somewhat nervous....but finding the right ob will be key.

  • I'm interested in the answers because I'm currently 18 weeks weeks with twins and had a C with my DS.  My old OB pretty much said they were much more comfortable doing a repeat C due to risk factors and that they only way they would consider a VBAC is if both twins are heads down.  My new OB seems a little more open to considering a VBAC with the twins but he's also been a lot more precautionary and started regular u/s's early.  So hopefully things progress in the right direction!  Good luck!

  • I would contact your local ICAN board and see if they have any recommendations. It just totally depends on the provider. Good luck!

  • I think the biggest factor will be to find a provider who is truly supportive.  The ACOG does recommend a TOL for VBAC twins who are presenting head down.  I would ask a lot of questions of your OB about positioning and what happens if you get one out and the other turns.

The good news is that you're not likely to encounter another cord-wrap situation.  So, you would be a good VBAC candidate.  The other good thing is that twins are usually on the smaller side, so you shouldn't have to deal with any "big baby" issues.

    Congrats and Good Luck!

  • I don't have any experience, but I wanted to say good luck. I will say that having a doctor is that supportive has helped my confidence. I feel like I have someone on my side at the hospital.
