Having name change tax issue, any ideas?

DS1 is biologically mine. DH adopted him in September 2010. His last name was changed and he got DH's middle name in addition to the middle name he already had. We have a new BC and SS card with the correct name. DH and I filed taxes last year with DS's new name with no issues. This year isn't going so well. We use Turbo Tax. We keep getting an e-mail from the IRS saying the return was rejected because DS's last name isn't what the SS office says it is. The SS office and DS's SS card are correct. The told us to contact the IRS. DH tried to call the IRS but can't get a hold of an actual person so that has gone nowhere. Anyone had similar issues or have ideas on what to do to be able to file our tax return?

Instead of calling the IRS, try calling your local department of taxation, or consult the attorney that handled the adoption.  You might have more luck talking to someone local rather than trying to get someone in DC to pick up the phone.

If you go to irs.gov, you can get the number of your local IRS office. Call them.
