Question about soft diapers getting rough/stiff after a while

So, I have quite a few of the totsbots bamboo diapers.  They were absolutely wonderfully soft in the beginning but now are a bit stiff/not as soft.  I have hard water so I know that doesn't help but I'm wondering if there is anything I can do to soften them back up.  They are made from bamboo terry.  They are super absorbent but just not as soft as I would like.

I've also seen other cloth diapers made of bamboo lose their softness (like Sbish and BSRB).

What can I do?
