Family bed

I am a lurker...but I have a question, hopefully you ladies can help me with it!

My DD is 4 months old, and we currently bed share. This is working well for us for the most part, however, she goes to bed around 7:30, and DH and I are not ready for bed at that point. Until now we have been making sure one of us is in the room with her (reading, browsing the internet and whatnot) while she sleeps alone in our bed. I have tried  to put her down in her crib for the first 2-3 hours of the night, but its really not working....I'll nurse her to sleep, put her in her crib (still asleep) and leave the room....she always wakes up 10-15 minutes later! She takes about half of her naps in her crib, so Im not sure what the difference is, really.

Any advice? DH and I could really use some "couple time" in the evenings.

TIA!

Re: Family bed

  • At that age I kept LO sleeping in our bed alone with the video monitor on her.  That way I could watch her every move but still do what I needed to do with my night.

  • I just last week moved our video monitor from his crib to our room as it's much easier on us all if he nurses to sleep in our bed for all his sleep.

  • Another vote for the video monitor. Love it!

  • We put a full size mattress on the floor next to our bed.  We also have a bedrail on my side of the bed.  DS naps on the floor bed.  I nurse him to sleep and then am able to get up without him waking up.  At night DS goes to sleep on the floor bed around 7:30/8:00, and I move him to the regular bed whenever I go to sleep.  Sometimes he will wake up (sometimes he'll sleep 3 hours without a sound, other times he starts to cry after 5 mins, or anything in between) and I will just go in and nurse him and get up again.  I keep a video monitor on him so I can see him moving around.  If DH is going to bed early, I leave DS on the regular bed between DH and the bed rail.
