So H and I didn't exchange Christmas gifts this year. Instead we bought ourselves tickets to see one of our favorite bands. The show is this Friday. We lined up an overnight sitter back in December, and have been planning for months.
My boss asked, off the cuff, if I wanted to go to MA with him for meetings on Friday. It's 2.5 hours without traffic. There's always traffic on Fridays, and he has lined up meetings until 4. Now, I would love to meet the clients, but I told him I was planning to take that day off. He seems okay with it, but I know he would have liked me to go.
That said, this is the only time this entire year I am planning to take a day off and send the kids to daycare. The concert doors open at 7, we were planning to get dinner before, and we have to get tickets at the will-call because we bought in a pre-sale. All that said, if I go to these meetings, I get back into town at 7 if I am lucky. I will have spent 5-6 hours in the car minimum. I miss dinner with my H and a leisurely lead up to the one thing we've done ourselves since September. This also means I don't see my kids on Friday before they head to my ILs overnight.
So, it's okay to say no once in a while, right? Because I need to not be spending my day stressed out on what was supposed to be a fun time.
Also, to add, DD and I have a dentist appt Friday morning too. So I would have to reschedule those too.
