FTM here and I plan on working until my EDD (or later!), basically work until something happens. I keep asking the OB and she says to keep on working.
Was anyone at work when they started the early stages of labor? I'm assuming I will be able to drive? Early labor lasts about 6-12 hrs and I'm about 10 miles from my house, even less to the hospital.

Re: Did anyone go into labor while at work?
Whoa! How long were you at the hospital before you started pushing? That's cutting it close!
I went into labor on a Thursday night, went to work Friday and had contractions all day. I left an hour early so I wouldn't get stuck in traffic while in labor. My contractions were timeable but not super painful most of the day, I pretty much told them I'd see them in 3 months when I left that day.
As soon as I walked into my house they got painful and I went to the hospital about 5 hours later. DS was born on Saturday around lunchtime.
I think the best thing I did was go to work that day, it kept my labor going because I was moving around and doing my normal routine but I didn't dwell on it because I was so busy trying to tie things up. It made it seem pretty short even though it lasted a couple of days:)
I started early labor on a Thursday at 9:00 AM while at work. I wasn't sure if it was the "real deal" or not, but I timed them all day. (I still have the sticky note with the times sitting on my desk). I worked the entire day and by the time I left at 4:30 the contractions were 12-15 minutes apart.
I rode the bus home from work that day and it was soooo uncomfortable (all the bumps, strangers squished into the seats)! I think I would have been OK driving early that day, but by 5 or 6 PM I would not have been fine to drive. I labored at home for a long time, went to the hospital at midnight, he was born at 5:55 AM Friday.
This is my first time posting on this board but as I will be a working mum, I thought it was time for me to start lurking!
I plan on working until I go into labour. I live about 10 minutes from my office and my office is 2 minutes from my hospital. My plan is that if I go into labour at work, I will leave immediately and drive myself home as I'd be more comfortable there.
My water broke on my way out of work 3 days after my EDD. I drove myself the 12 minutes home, called the OB, went through the McDonald's drive through and then got to the hospital. DS was born 12 hours later.
thedash,
My water broke in my car as dh parked at the drop off area at the hospital. The reception lady took me up to l&d while dh parked the car. I barely got into the room and got my pants down before ds was born. I didn't have time to get checked in or anything. They were asking me my info while rushing me to a room. Dh got there just in time. I had to have an episiotomy and was moved on to my side briefly because ds heart rate went down and I was delivered so quickly. It was very overwhelming. Most pain EVER. I did not intend on going un medicated but didn't have time for anything. I was one of those women you see on tv yelling in the hallway while in labor. I wasn't cursing at anyone or anything but letting the noise out with the pain helped a bit.
