My first pregnancy resulted in an emergency c-section 10 weeks ago. I labored without drugs in a free standing birth center with my husband, mom, and doula by my side. My LO wasn't on board with my no-intervention birth plan and luckily, everything had a happy ending.
My husband and I had planned to start TTC again ASAP, but both my midwives and doula recommend waiting at least a year between pregnancies to maximize the chance of a successful VBAC.
Has anybody on the board had a successful VBAC less than 2 years after a c-section? Were your doctors concerned about the risks? Given the choice, would you delay TTC to maximize the chance at a successful VBAC?
Re: VBAC and 2u2?
I believe the standard recommendation is 18 months between births for VBACs. I think there have been 1 or 2 Moms on here who were successful with less time.
18 months is also the standard recommendation for the health of the mother, regardless of VBAC. The idea is that your body needs a full 9 months to lose weight, heal, replenish bone density and get back to optimal health to support a new pregnancy. I know lots of people don't keep to that, but I'm a supporter.
I haven't had a VBAC yet but if successful mine will be right at 18 months apart. A friend of mine had a c-section with twins and then had a VBAC with a single baby 17 months later.

My pregnancies were spaced 12 months apart and my doctor was fine and extremely supportive of VBAC. I ultimately didnt end up with one because my doctor did not want me going past my EDD, would not induce and I didnt go into labor naturally. That likely would have been the same scenario regardless if my pregnancies would have been 12 months or 12 years apart though.
If your doctor is pro VBAC I dont see why you'd have to wait a long time. Sure, the risk of rupture is greater with closely spaced births, but since its such a rare complication (less than 1%) even with the greater risk in close births the overall risk is still very low.
