Pumping/time question

Hi ladies,

I know this will be different for everyone, but when I go back to work in August, I'll only have 2 times at work to pump. One will be during my prep period, which is 59 minutes, and the other will be during lunch. My lunch break is only 29 minutes.

From your experience, is 29 minutes long enough to pump? This is something that is starting to worry me.

Re: Pumping/time question

  • Yup, definitely enough time! Maybe invest in a double pump so you could pump a little faster and still get both sides.

  • I get a 1/2 hour lunch, and I eat then pump with time to spare.

  • 29 minutes is more than enough - I can do it in half the time :)
  • Thanks for reassuring me, ladies.

  • Any time is better than nothing.

It usually takes me 35-40 minutes to pump. 30 actively pumping and the rest for setting up/ taking down/getting to pump area.

  • 29 minutes is definitely long enough. It took me about 25 and I did manual expression at the end. You will want to make sure you have a quality double electric pump though.

  • I have a medela PISA, pump both breasts at a time and can be in and out in 20 minutes. I have tried to stimulate them with the let down button and keep the pump on longer but going longer than 15 minutes doesn't do anything for me. It's definitely different for everyone.

  • Yes, totally enough time.  I'm typically gone from my desk for 25 minutes to pump.  It takes about 5 minutes to get set up, I pump for 15, and then another 5 to get cleaned up.  That's including the walk to/from my desk to the mothers room.  Once I start pumping, I have a snack and catch up on emails so I'm not just sitting there watching the clock.
