Babies: 6 - 9 Months

summer clothes (xp from 6-9 months)

Hello, I am a FTM, and my baby girl is due at the end of June. I have what is probably going to be your silly question of the day, but here goes.... I live in Texas, by June and it is hot. What exactly do I need to dress my infant in? I would think the short sleeved/no leg onesies and socks. But do I need long sleeved/legged onesies and sleepers as well?? All of the sleepers that I see are long sleeved. I plan on swaddling and have heard the muslin swaddling blankets are great, so I am getting those. You would think the clothing would be the easiest part, but apparently this is the one thing my pregnant self has decided to get irrationally worried about!!!  Thanks for your help ladies :)

  • Definitely short sleeve bodysuits and sleepers without the feet.  A couple sun hats or other hats just for the first few days / or general outdoor time.  Maybe some "rompers" that are shorts and short sleeved one-piece item - I've seen these out now from Carters and other.

The muslin blankets are great for all types of weather and uses.  You could also find some plain cotton swaddle sacks (if you want to try those) by Halo or other. Aden and Anais also made muslin sleep items.

  • My mom kept yelling at me to layer him, but he was sweating. We mostly hung out in just a short sleeved onesie and socks and maybe a light blanket around him. At night, same thing except he was in the swaddle me blanket.

  • Texas mom here, and my baby girl was born June 23rd.

Around the house we mostly just dressed her short sleeved onesies with or without socks. When we went out, I put in her little cotton dresses over onesies, just to be a little more dressed up. At night, we started out putting her in a onesie and swaddling with the muslin blankets, but found pretty quickly that she slept better when she as all warm and cuddly. So we started putting her in the long sleeved, footed sleepers and swaddled her in the miracle blanket. We keep the AC around 74 in the summer, so she wasn't too hot in her room (we also always run a ceiling fan in her room).

She didn't start wearing pants or long sleeved onesies much until she started daycare and it got a little cooler in the fall.

ETA - on the sleeper we did the light cotton ones, not the heavy fleece ones.

  • DD is a july baby and we hung out in onesies or a diaper with a light blanket for naps (on me). She slept in light footed jammies since we ran ac. If we went out she would have on pants to avoid  sunburn/hot belts and buckles.
  • I'm in the midwest, and my DD was born in July.  I put in her in long sleeved sleepers because we were always inside in the air conditioning.
