Opinions on the name Minami Rose?

Minami means "south", and is Japanese.

Rose means "rose", and is English.

Re: Opinions on the name Minami Rose?

  • At first glance I read Miami Rose and thought it was really weird!

I don't really feel Minami, there are much better and prettier japanese names; I would look for something else unless you are somehow japanese and the southern rose thing has a special meaning for you

  • If you are Japanese (or your husband is), then it's a good choice. I think it would be strange if you're not.

This, plus it sounds like a variety of rose to me.

i agree with all of this.  is there a story behind the name?  i think there are prettier Japanese names to use, as PP said.

  • All I see and hear is Miami. If you live in America, I wouldn't go with this one. I agree with pps - unless you are Japanese and this has special meaning, look around some more. Sorry.
  • all i see is mini me
  • If you/your DH are Japanese, I think it's fine. If not, I think it's kind of strange and would side-eye. I do see Miami when I look at it though.

  • I see either "mini me" or "miami", not my favorite especially with the mn Rose.

  • Since I've lived in Japan, I immediately thought it was a direction, on the highway, not good.  I've never seen it used as a Japanese name, either.  Would you name a child East?

What about Hinami?  Similar sound but one I actually saw as a name.

    LOL.

Re: Minami, I also saw Miami and had to go back and read more closely. There are a lot of beautiful Japanese names, but this doesn't strike me as one of them.

  • I agree with the other posters on this one.

Hinami as someone suggested sounds good if you want a Japanese sounding name (not sure about the origin) or what about just MIna Rose?

pls reply to my help with A names post. Thnx!

  • Are you or your H Japanese or have a special connection to Japan?  If not I'd wonder why you were using a Japanese word for your LO's name.  Also there are much better choices of Japanese names that you could use... so why are you picking the word for south?

Megumi, Saki, Hikaru/Hikari, Maemi are all good options.

ETA: DH and I have a friend who gave her DD a Japanese middle name even though they are not Japanese themselves.  However, their DD was conceived and born in Japan so that makes sense.

  • Unless it has a deep & meaningful meaning to you & DH, I would avoid it.
  • I think it works out quite nicely. Also, Minami can be spelled as "beautiful [ocean/sea] wave" in Japanese (??). It is pronounced as mee-nah-mee.
