RE: Pinterest and TB

From Bump Kathleen:

Thanks for your Q. The majority of the photos you see on our Pinterest page were emailed to us by users who submitted them to be featured either on Pinterest or Facebook. We would never post a user's baby photo elsewhere without emailing them to notify them beforehand. This is what have done this in the past when we saw photos in the Bump photos album page that we wanted to feature elsewhere. Let me know if you have any other questions.

  • Thanks Kerr. I've still taken mine out. I don't really trust the bump gods anymore, and I've been flirting with taking it out based on a few others experiences.

  • Hmmmm...that's not cool.  And I just read that Pinterest's terms state that they can use the photo at their discretion if you don't own it or have permission to use it.  Hmmmmm, again.

  • I was reading the threads over on the nest, where they're taking all the pictures of the recipes and the girls are pretty ticked off since the photos originate from their blogs, but Pinterest is being linked back to thenest in order to promote more traffic.  So naturally the girls are angry because they think it should be linked to the blogs.  But Lisa Frank is right, once you post a picture on here, the bump/nest/knot has rights to it.  Oh, and they definitely do not email you first to ask permission according to all the conversations I read.  The explanation back was that "you can email us and request your content to be removed."

So they do it, you have to find out about it, then ask to be removed...rather then them asking permission to post your stuff first, then doing.  But yea, it all goes back to the TOS, and the fact that you lose your rights to the pictures.  Not much of an argument.
