I LOVE my bike! I love it even more now that we've had a cover made for it by a friend. Still riding smoothly almost a year later, and my H and I have adored having it this past winter. It handles slush, ice and snow really well.
Thats wonderful! I started thinking about gas prices lately and thought about you and your bike. While looking at bikes I saw the dutch box bikes and really like that the kids are in front instead of behind me. Now to find a place were I can go see them in person. Have you thought about adding the motor for hills? We have some around here and I am not sure I could get up them with DD and groceries and such.
Yeah, gas prices here are over $4, and traffic is horrendous! I cannot imagine driving every where here. Crazy.
The Dutch box bikes are really great but were not in our budget. It was a difference of $1k-$4k, depending on the model.
No, I haven't thought about adding a motor. Chicago is pretty flat. I had to go uphill today to go over a bridge and it was a piece of cake, though, and I had the bike loaded down with groceries and kid. I think that with a front riding box bike, it would be very difficult. The Madsen rides very similar to a regular bike.
I know that the electric assist option is popular in areas like Seattle, though. It would be something I would consider if I had to conquer hills daily.
