On Tuesday, my beta was 10. I was told I was having a chemical pregnancy and would need to come back on Thursday for beta 2 so they could confirm that my levels were down below 5 and close to 0. I spent the past 2 day preparing myself for the chemical pregnancy and was ready to move on...
Until the nurse called...Today my beta was 16. It went up. It didnt double, but it went up... I was to continue the meds til MONDAY and go back for another beta...
Then the RE called and told me that although it went up, it didnt double and was sluggish so I should stop the meds and consider it a chemical pregnancy...
I asked if I should go back on Monday for a beta and also why the nurse had said to continue the meds. Why did it go up? Wasnt it supposed to go down?
A long story short, he said if I could emotionally handle it, I should wait til Monday and get a 3rd beta. He didnt want to give me false hope...that only about 2% of stories have happy endings...but that he would recommend staying on meds if I was emotionally ok with that.
My husband and I talked about it and were not ok with ending a pregnancy without knowing what would or could happen...so we will continue the meds and this wild roller coaster until Monday...If I miscarry this weekend, or my levels are really low on Monday, then at least I wont feel guilty or always wonder what would have happened and can move forward. If by some miracle of God we are that 2% then we continue on our journey....
Talk about confusing...
Has this ever happened to anyone?

Never happened to me, but hoping you are in the 2% favor and this works out. I agree that I also wouldn't stop meds until I was absolutely sure it wasn't a viable pregnancy. After everything we've put ourselves through, I don't want any "what ifs."

Yes! This happened to me (see betas in siggy).
It was a long week and a half of emotions. I first had a 10, and two days later it was 19. So, it practically doubled. I was so lost as to what was going on...wondering if I was or wasn't really pregnant. They made me wait like 5 days for a 3rd beta and it went back to 17. I was horribly devastated.
During this time, I researched the heck out of betas and did see people on the PAIF board with low betas that ended up being successful.
Good luck to you. I know exactly what you are going through!

TTC Since 10/2007 with no luck and a 'go with the flow' attitude
1/1010 FINALLY decided to have testing done, dx MFI
7/2010 - DH starts Clomid to increase testosterone and hopefully sperm count
10/2010 - Still low (but improved) sperm count.
11/30/10 - IUI #1 and only = BFN
February 2011 - IVF #1 w/ ICSI =
Chemical PG (Beta 1: 10, Beta 2: 19, Beta 3: 17) :-(
April 2011 - IVF #2 w/ ICSI = BFN :-(
September 2011 - IVF #3 w/ ICSI = BFFN
November 2011 - AMH level tested - .83 (normal for age range)
February 2012 - IVF #4 w/ ICSI = (best response ever yet still) BFFN
April 2012 - DNA testing - NORMAL, RE suggests cycling again with own eggs or using DE
On Break indefinitely...not sure we can afford the emotional and financial roller coaster anymore.

Thanks everyone. We know this is a chemical pregnancy and fully expect it to go down over the weekend but we couldnt end it before we knew what it would do...Whats meant to be will be. We wont drag it on past Monday if things dont drastically improve but I trust the doctors recommendation to do a 3rd beta.

(((Ermo)))!!! I'm so sorry that you are dealing with this!!! You've been in my thoughts over the past days. I just got the phone call from my IVF nurse, and I've now joined you in beta hell! My level has risen from from 7 to 12 -- my RE wants me to stay on PIO and I have to get another beta on Sunday.
I'm sending so many thoughts and prayers out that we can both escape from this and move on very, very soon!!!

yes, i have had this happen to me, 4 times unfortunately. the first time i wasn't tracking my betas, it was before i knew i had if issues. but the remaining 3 have been in the past year. i also kept going w. the meds for the same reasons as you. i wouldn't feel right either just stopping w/out giving the cycle it's best chance. i wanted to do everything in my power that i could. There is always hope & i hope you are in the 2%. it does happen.
thoughts & prayers to you!!
