Sleeping Problems?

I've been having really severe sleeping issues, throughout most of my pregnancy. Especially lately, I sleep for an hour or two at a time, and then I'm up for 8 hours or more. If its not the cat meowing to get attention, or the husband kicking me or elbowing me in my sleep, My little one seems to just want mommy to be up. So I get an hour or two at night, and then sometimes I can get a nap between 11 and 4, but again, waking up every hour or so. My doc had me try Tylenol PM, but it doesn't seem to help me stay asleep, so I only take it when I'm desperate, because I don't want to take meds unless necessary. Anyone else have these issues? Any advice?

Re: Sleeping Problems?

  • I am a  terrible sleeper in general and used to take unisom or other sleep meds to help me get through the night.  Since I got pregnant it got even worse as I decided to quite taking any medication unless it was absolutely necessary.Plus it is really hard to find a comfortable position now.

One thing that has helped is the snoogle.  I got one several weeks ago and it has been a big help.  I can now get a couple hours of sleep before I wake up and I fall back asleep much faster.   It is defiantly something you might want to try to see if it will help you!!

  • I'm sorry it so rough. First off Maybe trying having the husband sleep on the couch one night and close the door. This way the cat leaves you alone, the husband wont be hitting ya. Or try sleeping on couch yourself. (sometime i find that helps, keeps me on my side)

I also notice if I try staying up just a bit longer I seem to sleep better. I got a body pillow but found just a regular pillow between my legs works best. Thats personal preference.

     Good luck.

  •  I know it seems silly, but at soon as I started going to bed with a lavender candle burning, I started sleeping so much better. Lavender is supposed to be very relaxing and calming. It can't hurt to try. Yankee Candle Co. has plain lavender right now and it smells great.

  • I actually feel like I sleep better when DH rubs my back, legs, butt (especially) and belly.  Bath and Body Works has a lavender vanilla body oil that just has a very relaxing scent about it.  Not sure what it is about the butt massage but I'm snoring by the time he's done.

  • I had insomnia before I was pregnant and now things are much worse. I wish I could tell you that I have found something that works for me, but I haven't. My pregnancy pillow helps a bit as well as propping myself up, but I still have the constant bathroom breaks and the hours of just sitting and thinking every night. Oh the joys! lol

  • Unisom seems to work a little better for me than benadryl (that is all that is tylenol pm for sleep), but it just isnt easy to get comfortable anymore.
