TTC After a Loss

Thinking about starting a blog...(NTTCAL related, well sort of)

Hello ladies.  This is going to be a long one.  I have been thinking of starting a blog for a little while now.  In the past week both of my sisters have started blogs.  Both of their blogs are about healthy living (and make me want to barf, to tell the truth).

My younger sis is a mom of two (just had her second in Jan) and is a phys. ed teacher, incredibly active, healthy, skinny and gorgeous (I'd probably hate her if she wasn't my sister IYKWIM).  My older sis is also the mom of 2 (her oldest is 12, youngest is 10).  She is in her mid 40s and in pretty good shape (lost a bunch of weight after her first pg and never gained it back) and fairly active.  Anyways, both of them are on this healthy living kick and are training for a 1/2 marathon, which is great for them.  They do everything together (live in the same town- about 2 blocks from eachother) and are pretty much joined at the hip.  I live 1.5 hrs away.

I on the other hand am not a very active person and have absolutely no desire to be one.  I am not athletically gifted in any way, so I don't like to play sports.  I play games on the kinect a few times a week and work up a sweat doing it.  I am not unhappy with my body.  I can maintain my weight with little or no effort and working out like a crazy person and spending big bucks on gym memberships and personal training only reduces the number on the scale by about 10 lbs.  To me, it's not worth it.  I did buy the biggest loser game for my xbox and should be using it more, but I have very little time for me, so when I do get some I want to relax not workout.  I am maybe 15lbs overweight, but am very healthy, good BP, low cholesterol with no health concerns.

Obviously the blog I would be writing would be on a totally different vane.  I was thinking about writing about my TTCAL journey and my family life.  I would likely keep the blog private, sharing with only select people, including you ladies and some other close friends.  My family is not overly supportive in my desire to expand my family, so I don't think I would even share my blog with them, which is sad.  I think I would do it more for me, just to get my thoughts down somewhere.

So while typing this, I have decided to do the blog, for me.  I dont't know where to start, can any of you bloggers out there show/tell me how to get started?  Thanks ladies.  Love you all!

ETA - fix wording.

  • I think this is a fantastic idea! I have a blog that was a general lifestyle blog before and now it's turnin into a fertility journey blog. I recommend blogspot. It's free and easy to use. www.blogger.com. You can check out mine if you'd like. www.thesoulanchor.blogspot.com

  • I started a blog right after my m/c. It was therapeutic for me, and I like writing (I'm not very good at writing though, lol). I haven't made it poblic to my friends yet, just one of my friends who is a writer for a living, I wanted to make sure my ramblings made sense.

  • I say DO IT!  It doesn't need to be about fitness or physical health.  Let it be what you want it to be and it will be so emotionally healthy for you which is just as important!  Good luck!

  • I would do it. There is no harm in trying. It is a great way to get everything out that you need to say. You can keep it private or make it public. It can literally be about anything. The awesome part is if you decide it's not for you, you just stop. No skin off your nose! I hope you do better then me lol. I have a tendency to start things and never keep up with it.

ETA I have a blog with both Blogger and Wordpress. I prefer Blogger.

  • I don't have any advice but wanted to wish you luck. My therapist is a huge advocate for writing, and I think that a private blog will be very beneficial for you.

  • I do the same thing, because I have friends who are not on the same page as me, which is perfectly ok (Most of them are still single, either married or don't want children) but I don't tell them because they aren't very supportive either.  I use Livejournal.com, which is okay.  The only thing I don't like is that some times in the day it's very slow and I can't post (I don't have the paid account, which if you do, you'll have the site run faster).  It has a free iPhone app too so I usually blog on my phone when I'm not at home.

Because of the great "Snow"vember of 2015, my medicated cycle was cancelled.  However, we were blessed with our little rainbow baby due on 8/14/15!  Baby J had other plans and decided to make his grand ole entrance on 7/4/2015!

Surprise!  Our little girl entered this world on 12/8/2016 after her eviction notice was long past due.  Our little turkey baby turned into a snow baby!

  • I think its a really good idea... in most cases just a post on a message board (while some can be long...) you never really feel comfortable explainging EVERYTHING...  I think a blog is a great way to do that... even if it is private. Ive been thinking about it myself. Good Luck!
  • I've had my blog for years, and it's one of the best things I've ever done for myself, personally and professionally.

I mainly write about my life, my neighborhood, my family and music. I did write about my loss there as well, but my blog is in no way about TTC. That's not to say I won't occasionally write about it, that's just not my main focus.

I use Wordpress, and have for every blog I have worked on. (I've also done some live-blogging a few times from some of the music festivals here, like Lollapalooza and Pitchfork, and it's a great platform!) I HIGHLY recommend using them.

Good luck! Please share if you do.

We lost our first (EDD 07/23/12) after finding out at 12 weeks there was no longer a heartbeat. Our rainbow was born 05/22/13 and was worth all we went through.

  • I think it is a great idea.  I would love to see your blog as a fellow AMA TTCAL'er.
  • Thanks ladies.  I'm going to do it.  I will check out those blog sites tonight and maybe if I'm lucky get started.  I've got a counselling appt with DH tonight, so I might not have time til Saturday.  I'll post once I have something up so you all can take a look at it.  I find writing kind of therapeutic, so I am sure I will get something out of it even if no one else does.  You ladies rock by the way!

  • That sounds like a lovely idea! If you want to do it for you, then I say go for it! That's really all the motivation and reason you need. Good luck!
