Multiples

My OB's kind of lied.

When I asked if my hernias from the twins pregnancy would be an issue if I ever got pregnant again, I was told they would not be especially if I carried a singleton.

Not only do my hernias bulge out (especially at night when everything's bigger) but they are already painful.

Anyone else have hernias and then get pregnant again? How much worse did they get from your subsequent pregnancy.

Re: My OB's kind of lied.

  • I don't have any experience with this, but when I saw the title my jaw dropped b/c I seriously thought you were going to say they found a second baby in there at a follow-up u/s. Wouldn't that be a surprise!?!

  • My former OB said that if I wanted it repaired, it would redo itself whenever pg again so I didn't have it fixed after DDs. Then when I was pg with DS, I told my new OB I wanted to have it fixed if I ended up with another c/s. She said she'd correct it (mine is an umbilical hernia)....but...as soon as she saw it for herself during surgery, she said she wasn't comfortable doing it and that it would need mesh so she would refer me at a pp visit...

Went to my consult. He would do a large mesh (laproscopic-sp?- surgery) that would correct the hernia AND help with pulling together the diastasis recti! BUT...the recovery is just as long and restricted as a c/s! 1 week of full restrictions followed by a month of limited lifting. While I would LOVE to have this done so that I can correct my hernia finally, I don't have the extra help with the kids to actually be able to do it :(

DId you have a c/s? If so, you could ask your OB about correcting it during the next c/s and/or ask if a general surgeon could be tehre to repair it.

HTH and sorry you're dealign with this too.

  • Forgot to mention that the surgeon said that after he did the mesh surgery, the hernia would NOT redo itself again (even with more pgs) as my former OB told me. So mine kinda lied, too!

On a higher note, the diastasis didn't get any worse w/ DS than it already was from having DDs.

  • I had a consult with a general surgeon after the kids were born who gave me the same option with the mesh and the diastasis repair, although it doesn't fix the loose skin, etc. (obvs)

I actually have two hernias it seems an umbilical and something else that has decided to come out for a visit. I'm going to talk to my OB about them next week at my first pregnancy appointment for this baby (I'm still at my RE right now).

I'm really in a lot of pain from them, especially in the morning when I first wake up if I slept on my belly and at night when I'm more bloated/big.

I was told the same thing as you -- surgery = no more kids, which is why I held off.
