I bought a bag of Kraft mexican cheese about two days ago from Wal Mart. Yesterday I used it to make myself a bean and cheese burrito for lunch. I didn't notice any mold at the time but a few hours later my husband pointed out that the whole bag was filled with mold. I ended up getting pretty bad diarrhea (yep tmi) and my stomach still feels a little weird. I tried calling my Dr but, as usual, I can't get a hold of them. I can't find much information online about it either. I did heat up my burrito for about a minute but that's about all. I doubt anything can be done (obviously) but I am just a little worried. Any ideas or words of reassurance?

Re: I ate moldy cheese
Don't worry about it. It sounds like your body did its job and took care of it (with the diarrhea), so as long as you're feeling fine now I wouldn't stress.
I'm sure we've all eaten something less than fresh inadvertently, fortunately our bodies are pretty good at protecting the babies!

I'm glad I saw this... ever since I found out I was pregnant, I've been worried that I might accidentally consume something that's been in the fridge for too long (it's hard to remember when you actually opened something sometimes).
But in the end, I don't think we should worry too much about things like that. I don't think one or two slip ups wil cause any kind of harm to our babies. Plus, as my mom pointed out yesterday, she knows plenty of women who are pretty lax about expiration dates who had healthy babies.
Anyway, obviously the moldy cheese isn't ideal, but I doubt something like that would cause anything more than a little temporary discomfort. Try not to worry about it!
The Kraft Mexican Cheese also has green peppers in it too... Are you sure it wasn't that?
I have bought the kind with peppers and thought it was mold and it wasn't.
Don't worry. Around week 6 I ate some salsa that had seen better days and got 24 hours of diarrhea and no appetite as punishment. This was during a morning-sickness week for me in which I wasn't eating much anyway. I had seen my doctor the week before and called her office afraid that if the food poisoning wasn't going to do my baby in, the combo of it and the little I had been able to eat that week would. They weren't worried about it. They told me to drink some ginger ale to help my stomach and that I would be all right. They were right. I've had two ultrasounds since then and a few doctor's appointments, and the baby's growing and developing fine.
As other posters have mentioned, the human body knows how to take care of itself. If it can build your baby with all those beautiful little intricate parts and systems, it can knock out some moldy cheese!
