2nd Trimester

so its out...

I was talking to my MIL on the phone and I called DS2 by name (OOOPS! Indifferent) We werent telling (her or my two SIL) because they are very opinionated when we told then names we liked for this one and our first. Eeeek.

So guess what she said-  "Joel, awww its cute. Well, Im going to be honest with you, I wouldnt have picked that name but I like it a hell of a lot better then Jude!" (We were between Jude and Joel). Thanks, I guess?!

(I just wish people would respect what you name your child and keep any rude thoughts to themselves!)

Re: so its out...

  • Joel is my husbamds name and he is a wonderful guy! Cheers to you and baby Joel. I hate how people ruin our name fun with their two cents.

  • Wow! I'm amazed at how outspoken people's family members are about their name choices!

  • This happened with me, but I was at dinner with my two friends. Both know I wanted to keep it a secret, so luckily they didn't say too much about it/make a deal of it. One said "aw I like it" and the other one had kind of already known b/c we talked baby names many times before I was pg. Plus, she said she hadn't even caught on that I said it until I was like, "... aw shoot, I said his name". Hah.

Sorry she didn't have too much of a filter, but at least she likes it?! :P

  • I did almost the same thing with my younger brother! I accidentally told him the name we picked for a boy, and then the little brat gets drunk and starts telling my whole family! Luckily they blew him off as being wasted. If he had not been in pain the next day I would have made sure he was!

  • I am so afraid of this happening. Both of our parents have been pretty rude about potential names in the past. So we are not going to tell them until the baby is born. But I am afraid that I am going to let it slip. I don't even want to use the name when its just me and my DH because I'm afraid I'll get in the habit.

  • Why are ppl so opinionated about this?! And why do they feel the right to rub their opinion in your face? Both my mom and my MIL were negative about our baby's name (Archer). It hurts. They already had their kids and got to name them.

  • I'm terrified of my 2 year old spilling the beans.   We haven't decided on a name yet, but if she picks up on it when we do, she will tell.  I've thought about convincing her the baby is going to be named something weird - like Pocahontas - then when the family hounds her about it, she will only have that to tell them.  Stick out tongue
