2nd Trimester

Annoyed - vent session

I don't know why, but I just can't stand when my mother or in-laws ask to see my bump. I don't mind it when friends ask, but for some reason I just want to keep my bump to myself with the others. MIL came over tonight uninvited, unannounced and I was just about to take a much needed nap when the door bell rang. I was not the nicest to her and when she walked into my house her first question was if I was showing. I said yes a little and she started acting like a 5 year old and begging to see it. I happily sat in my chair with my blanket and said no. If I would have showed her the next thing would have been to touch it. Nope, no way, na-uh.

I will let you know when you can look at MY body when I'm good and ready.

This better not be a preview to what it will be like after baby comes. People need to call before the come over!!

K, I'm done. :)

Re: Annoyed - vent session

  • It's your body and you get to decide who sees it and who doesn't. Some of us are more modest than others and don't wish to expose ourselves to family/friends/strangers. Good for you for telling her no.

  • I had to laugh out loud with this one because this is EXACTLY how I feel with everyone who IS NOT my husband!!!!! I think you handled it quite well. I'm constantly wearing bigger sweatshirts so nobody can ask/touch. Not looking forward to the spring/summer...when I'm huge...don't quite know how I'll handle it then.
  • How often does she just come on over?  Wow.
  • I think I would go nuts if my MIL was close enough to me to just drop by like that.
  • What does she want you to do, hoist up your shirt so she can stare at your stomach?  My bump is carrying low, so I would have to pull my shirt up and my pants down if someone wanted to see my bump (and I was willing to show it!).  What is it about a pregnant belly that makes people think it is public property?

  • Definately need to lay down the law when it comes to people dropping by if your not a fan of it.  I personally loathe the drop by and with much of MH's family living within 5 mins of us, we have to make very clear rules about it for when the baby comes.
  • With me it was all about everyone letting me decide when the time for looking and touching was. No one in my life pushed this or was overly invasive. If they had been I would have been beyond irritated! You were fine with the way you reacted. Coming over without calling is just plain rude.

  • Thank goodness I have a great mother in law.. My sister in law is a different story though haha
  • Oh Boy...I feel your pain!! my MIL is going to be the same way when she sees me and i am NOT looking forward to it... i dont like when people touch me as it is let alone rub my stomach ( besides my husband) . Shes away for the winter right now but EVERYTIME she talks to my husband she asks 1. Do her pants still fit? 2. does she have a belly yet? 3. is she gaining weight? I just want to ask her one day of her pants still fit!! i keep picturing how she is going to act when she finally sees me and how she is going to be rubbing, talking, and kissing my belly. im not looking forward to it! i  always tell my husband when i think of how everyone is going to do that all i can picture is me karate chopping all of their hands. I feel like people have never seen pregnant women before. We should start rubbing their bellies as they are trying to rub ours...see how they like it ;)

My MIL lives about 30 seconds from my house and my Step-MIL lives about a mile down the road. Trust me...its just a dandy situation.

I remember when I was 12 weeks pg with DS she went up to my belly and was like "hi baby, this is grandma..." AHHHHHHHHHHHHH I still remember it like it was yesterday and I just wanted to knee her in the head!
