Preemies

Does anyone still follow their "month board"?

I like to lurk on my "month board" (September) but lately it's getting depressing.  DS is falling farther and farther behind.  He only started to bring objects to his mouth about 5 weeks ago, and rolled last week.  Meanwhile all of the other babies on his month board are sitting up and starting to the rocking motion on their hands and legs.  I know that DS has come a long way and for that I am grateful but I've come to the conclusion that I am going to stop lurking there, and stop comparing DS to them.  I am also going to go back to the 3-6 month board because that's where he is developmentally.

 End pity party.

  • I kind of backed away from all TB boards for a while. I can assure you, while it is hard to see him "behind", think of a baby at his adjusted age.. He's right on track if not ahead! It gets better as they start to catch up.

  • I backed away for a while as well.  It's still tough sometimes, I mean, I have a 14 month old that can't even sit without support for more than a few seconds.  I just remember how far they have come, and the things they have overcome that the rest of those babies didn't.  I mean, my kid who can't sit re-grew his frigging tibia! Now that's bad-ass.

Also as time goes on the playing field starts to level out and the range of typical becomes much bigger.

He's behind even for his adjusted age. Tongue Tied

We have the same PNP, and I LOVE the ball pit idea. :-)

  • I understand. Sam didn't bring things to his mouth until he was about 6 months adjusted. I am currently worried about his speech. The worry never ends. I hang around 9-12 instead of toddlers. Good call, mama!

  • Hmm... I'm in a different situation since I'm supposed to be pregnant for two more months, so my due date board girls are all talking about their third trimesters, but no, I can't bear to hear all the happy pregnancy talk, and I'm sure I won't feel up for sticking around once all their full-termers are born.

  • I haven't followed any type of board, all I've been doing is watching him grow and sometimes I forget he's a preemie.  He's turning 4 months this week and he hates tummy time, he hasn't rolled over yet but he has stood up and holds himself pretty good without much strength from my part and I'm amazed at that.  He weighed 3lbs 12oz and he's over 10lbs now, I think every baby is different and all we can do is enjoy them and practice with them in order to help them acheive certain mile stones, it's super frustrating because he yells at tummy time, I really want him to lift himself up while on his tummy but he's not doing this :(
I have PCOS and we TTC for a year without treatment! We were blessed with a little miracle. Our baby was born at 34 weeks 6 days, I got Preclampsia during the 3rd trimester, he weighed 3lbs 12oz and 17.5 inches. He doubled his weight in a month, he's a big boy now! Baby Birthday Ticker Ticker

Uh, YEAH. I'd say so! That's awesome! :)

I'm from the September boards too. It is very upsetting to lurk. DS is behind on sitting and other things. Each baby has his or her own pace. I got unreasonably upset at work one day a while ago when he was still in newborn diapers and most babies were in 2's. That was when I started lurking here more then anywhere else. To be honest I am not really sure where I fit but I know not on the September board.

    Indeed. Yes

  • I stopped on the birth month board once she was born because I really had no interest in continuing to read about other women who were still pregnant. I got back into it when my baby was a few months old, and I follow the original board that would correlate with her adjusted age. She is relatively on track for her adjusted age, so I fit in better there, and I still find the advice and support helpful.

  • I will sometimes pop on there, but our issue is more of weight than anything. DD just hit 8 lbs and it was a huge deal for us.
  • I came from the April 2012 board and it hurts to look at all the PG girls when they do their HDBD pictures on wednesdays.  I am so bitter about what happened, and sad because instead of cooking in me, he is cooking in a plastic box a half hour away.  And you can only hear "it is for the best - he is where he needs to be" so many times before you want to stick a toothbrush in someone's eye.

Amen to all of this! :(

  • No - I'm very literal and so when I had him in March I thought I wasn't meant to be on the May Board anymore - and since I'd never spent time in March, that was that.
  • I backed away from my month board because DS was almost behind by a year than those LOs. It was depressing to see that they were all walking when my son just learned to roll over at that point.
