TTC after 35

It was good while it lasted.

::le sigh::

Checking out at my monitoring appointment this morning, they let me know I had a "big balance."  That big balance that was not there at my monitoring appointment on Saturday.  Surprise  Looks like we hit our lifetime infertility max earlier this month.  I'm grateful we had coverage for 4 IUI cycles--this 5th one will be OOP.  If this doesn't work, we'll be moving to IVF sometime this summer I would imagine.  I'm a mixed bag of emotions, but "so sad I feel like crying" is not one of them.  I think this acupuncture stuff is really working.

...and now an observation & question.  In all of my previous cycles I would trigger w/Ovidrel and then go back 2 days later for the IUI.  I've always felt I was ovulating before that 2nd day, so I would do the Ovidrel trigger at the very tail end of the window they suggested (6pm-12am) hoping the sperm caught up to the egg before it died.  This afternoon the nurse said my LH was 39.3, I was going to ovulate soon and that I should trigger tonight and the IUI will be tomorrow at noon.  I was out of the office all day at appointments and didn't have time to use the restroom.  When I got home at 6pm I peed on an OPK and no smiley.  Shouldn't my OPK have been all smiles if my LH was that high?

If you made it this far, please imagine a PIP of Thin Mints & a glass of milk.  (I'm horrible at PIP'ing!)

Re: It was good while it lasted.

  • This happened to me last month, too, except my surge was so early they weren't even testing for it yet!  But I suspected I was going to surge soon because of super-early EWCM and tested at home with an OPK.  A follow-up blood test at the RE confirmed I was surging.  (They canceled the IUI because they weren't sure what the heck was going on.)  And sure enough, I O'd on Day 8 -- way early for me even in a treatment cycle.

    Do you have OPKs that aren't digital?  The reason I ask is because you can't really tell on those if you're close but not quite surging.  You might have just barely missed your surge with the OPK, or possibly your urine was too diluted or something like that.  If you don't clearly ovulate today (not sure if you're temping during your cycle or not) could you request a back-to-back IUI?

    Half-truth= I didn't get a +smiley OPK.

    Full-truth= I actually peed on a Wondfo OPK, a FRER OPK and a CBE OPK--all negatives.  Embarrassed

    I decided to not temp this cycle (grrrrr) and my RE doesn't do B2B IUIs--I've asked before.  (She said there is no evidence that shows any greater success rates.) I guess I'll just have to trust in the wonder of medicine again this month and go with what my blood was telling them.  Truth be told, I actually had a lot of EWCM on CD8 but I'm not sure if it was because I was taking Mucinex and drinking more green tea here and there?

    Are you still going to acupuncture?  I've only been going for 2 months and when we were on our own last cycle I O'd really early, too.  Acupuncture has been the only change I've made.  Just curious...

    Thanks for your response. :)
