Two Under 2

How would/did you arrange carseats?

Come September we will have

DD- 25.5 months

DS- 13.5 months

LO3- NB

We have a minivan with captains chairs and a 3rd row bench. DH and I have been debating how to arrange. If we put someone in both middle seats we have almost no access to the back. I think we've decided its going to be 2 in the back 1 in the middle. Do I put the older 2 in back? DD might be forward but DS will be RF.

Re: How would/did you arrange carseats?

  • Sounds like my car... Mazda 5?  Anyway... I don't think you are going to want to mess with a RF carseat in the third row, so I would put your DS in the captains chair in the middle row as well as the NB.  When he can FF I would put him in the third row with your DD.  In my mazda there would be space between the two seats where a small child could walk to the back and get in her seat.  Can she do her own buckles?

  • Do you have stow and go?  I "stowed" the seat that is directly behind the front had and the NB right behind the driver seat, the RF seat in the third row behind the NB and the FF seat in the third row on the other side.  Having the middle seat completely gone allowed the older ones to climb in, and it made it easier for me to get to the third row to buckle them in.  When the weather is bad it was easy to get everyone in the car, close the door, and then worry about buckling in. • I don't have this problem/option but, if it were me I'd stow/remove one of the captains chairs and put the oldest and the newborn in the back. The oldest will be able to climb in by herself which is nice and the newborn will be able to just click in and out of a base (I assume). I also personally have enjoyed being able to ask my two year old things about his sister (i.e. is your sister awake or asleep?). I also hated the 1 year old stage of getting in and out of carseat because he was heavier but still not getting in and out on his own and it was often a wrestling match, so I'd want that one in the easiest spot.
