I know as babies get older it's not uncommon for FF babies to go a day or two without pooing but the pediatrician told me to call if her poo ever becomes hard and pebble like, so I did and they tell me to give her a teaspoon of miralax with her next feeding.
LO is only drinking 45 ML per feeding and she is only 5 lbs. I called the office because I noticed her lips are dry, she is having trouble pooing (grunting more than usual) and her last bowel movement was yesterday afternoon and it was just one "pebble". I'm thinking they will treat for dehydration not constipation, especially with Miralax.
I've never questioned a doctors recommendation but I find this to be odd for a 9 day old baby. Is this common practice? Sorry this turned out long, FTM worries...
Re: Miralax to a 1 week old?
Never heard of Miralax for a newborn, but I've been told by family and my pedi to dilute Karo syrup in warm water and give it to LO... works within a day.
Also, DS1 had constipation issues due to the formula he was on as well, and we solved it by adding an extra ounce of water to every properly made bottle. (Pedi approved) He still gained weight like a champ. And we used filtered water, not tap.
We've done Miralax with both of our DDs. Pedi reccomended. She said it's made from natural vegetable fibers which made it more appealing to me than the Karo syrup. It works great. I still give it to DD 1 if I notice her straining hard to poop. She is potty training and if she gets constipated it makes PTing harder.
