Babies: 6 - 9 Months

In between 3-4 naps

She outright refuses a fourth 45 min nap but her naps haven't consistently lengthened.  Le sigh.  I was hoping to have some predictability but even her 3 naps don't run like clockwork (used to be every 1.5 hours) anymore and this stinks.

Re: In between 3-4 naps

  • I think six months is a transition time for naps. . I haven't read anything about this to confirm, I just say this from my experience. Some days we have 4 naps some days we have three, today we only had two and one of them was 2.5 hours. I never know what to expect from my LO and I try to just go with the flow as a result. I do know that she can't stay awake for longer than two hours in the morning and early afternoon. However after 4 o'clock somehow she's able to manage. She is dropping this cat nap and it makes for a tough 3-4 hours to bedtime but we do okay. image

    I understand your frustrations.

  • It was a hard transition for us too, but try to stick with the 3 naps and she will figure it out... nap transitions can be bumpy, we are in the 3 to 2 mode now, 3 is too many, 2 are too few. GL!

  • I agree with PP that 6 months is a def nap adjustment time. We are now down to 3 naps, but the morning and afternoon naps are longer. She takes a 30 min catnap mid day. I also agree that the 3-4 hour stretch before bedtime can be rough. I think its still early to worry about a strict nap schedule. Just go with the flow of what your LO needs/wants.

  • Thanks all.  I spent too much time anxious about sleep for sure.  It took awhile to accept the 45 min naps but these days since I don't always even get those it has me worried about her overall sleep needs.  But all I can do is try and give her the nap opportunities.

I think three to four is the right number if they are of sufficient length since she fights anything after 4pm and does OK between then and her 7pm bedtime.

ETA - I'm trying to work on a three nap plan and many days it works but some days if all the three are short we end up overtired and then we're up SUPER early the next day.
