Tattoo..running?

I'm supposed to be getting my Memorial tattoo on my foot tomorrow, however i've been training for a 5K which is on 3/18/12.  will I be able to run this race?  I've never had a tattoo in my life, so i don't know what to expect.  Can anyone help me out?

Re: Tattoo..running?

  • I have 3 tattoos, and the scabbing process was 1-2 weeks for each. It'll scab up within a day or so, and you won't want to wear closed shoes or anything that rubs it until the scab is completely gone. If you take good care of it and follow the instructions they give you, that will help.

    Good luck!

  • My husband & I both got foot tattoos together a couple of years ago. Mine healed up wonderfully because I let it air out & didn't wear constructing shoes. His looks like shiit because he wears boots 12 hours a day 5 days a week. I would wait until the race is over to get it.

  • *in my experience* the artists with the nest reputations wont do tattoos on your feet beacuse they dont last, its such a high traffic area youd have to get it touched up every year.

  • I have a foot tattoo that I've had for 5 years and haven't had touched up once, and it isn't faded so don't necessarily worry about what PP said about it fading.  I would wait until after your race though because like other posters have said you need to let it air out and wear things like sandals or loose shoes until it heals up.  If you follow the tattoo artist's recommendations it should come out looking great!
  • Just noticed your ticker and wanted to say I'm sorry for your loss. What a precious little guy.

  • A 5k is only 3.1 miles so as long as you keep it covered with a bandage or something when you run that race, I don't see that it should be a problem. Now if you were going to run a longer race, it may start to become irritated from the friction but 3.1 miles I can't imagine would be terrible...

Same here.  My heart is aching looking at his picture.  You must be one strong lady.

    So sad :(
