During my 1st a/s at 18 weeks they couldn't even tell us for sure (baby was moving too much, feet, legs, umbilical cord in way)... and it was a huge disappointment.
Also, at 16 weeks the genitals are very similar, so the chances of it being a wrong guess is higher than waiting a bit longer so the genitals are fully developed and more obvious. But it's your choice! I've heard many say they found out even earlier than you. I think it's easier to tell if you're having a boy than a girl...
After the 1st a/s my OB checked out the gender in his office on a portable scanner and said girl..
At my 20week follow-up a/s we were confirmed girl.

I'm only 14 weeks and we're doing the 3/4D ultrasound tomorrow and finding out the sex. They guarantee it or you get your money back... I guess it's easier to tell that way.

We did early u/s with both pregnancies to find out gender. With DD, it was done at 16 wks and they were 80% sure she was a girl. With this LO, we had it done at 16.2 wks, and there was no doubt that she was a girl. 2 subsequent u/s's have confirmed girl. At 16.2 wks, we could clearly see the 3 lines and nothing between the legs.

Why wouldn't you just wait 2 weeks? Seems like a waste of money to me and it's more likely to be accurate at the a/s anyway.
Not all OB's do the scan at 18 weeks. Mine won't until after 20 weeks (with DD it was 22 wks), so I can understand some being antsy to have it done if that is the case.
We had the 3D done at 17 weeks because my husband's grandfather was dying and fading quickly. He wanted to know what we were having before he passed away. We were able to clearly see three lines and no weenie, so a girl it is!! But I cut the technician short and did not let her go the full 15 minutes of the session. Ultrasounds cause heat, which is why the baby moves so much the longer the session. So once your baby starts wriggling... stop. Too much heat is not good. We still have our a/s this Friday... we are hoping it will only confirm what we already saw. If they say it is a boy... then we will be really confused and have to go back to gender neutral planning. But I really doubt it. She was being really cooperative at the 3D scan and we got a clear shot of our little girl. Little flasher!!
I kept joking that I would have to explain to her early on why she would never be allowed to go to Cancun on spring break! LOL!!
At 16 and 17 weeks Gender can be accurate but not 80-100%, Babies genitalia is external for both sexes at this time. If you can wait till at least 18 weeks for a elective it is much much more accurate. There was no doubt our little one was a boy at 18weeks 1 day. but my A/S at 18 week in just blk and white was hard to tell bc thier systems aren't as updated.. ( Thats a huge factor too)!~ Good Luck either way!!

I had mine at 15.6 weeks and you could clearly see that it was a girl! My A/S isnt scheduled until 21.3 weeks so for me, it was almost 6 week difference! I am pretty confident that this wont change at my next scan...I say go for it!!!

We had an elective u/s done at our MW's office for $50 at 15w6d. We really wanted to know before we flew home for Christmas. They told us girl and it has been confirmed at every u/s we've had since then. I did get nervous as we approached our anatomy scan that it would turn out to be wrong, though! Everything worked out well in the end.
We had 3D scan done at 16 weeks and 5 days with our second baby and we were told its a boy. Then we had regular doctor's ultrasound scan done at 20 weeks and 1 day and they confirmed that it's a boy! So If you really want to know, I say you go ahead and get the scan done, most places will guarantee gender determination which means is the baby won't cooperate, you can come back for a re-scan for no additional cost.
I had an elective done and not only was it really nice because it was more of a spa environment than a hospital, but I wanted to get one done due to not being able to wait 6 weeks between my 12 week appointment at 18-20 week appointment to see baby again! We got the confirmation that everything looked great with baby, heard the heartbeat, and the added bonus was in between tossing and turning in his nap, he uncrossed his legs and it was very obvious we have a little man on our hands! That was at 15w2d! I also heard it is easier to mistake girls than boys, but the technician we had has been doing this for a long time and said by 15 weeks, the genitals are fully formed and should be seen clearly if baby cooperates. And there are a lot of places that gurantee the correct gender prediction or you can get a refund...or if baby isnt cooperating, you can come back for free. I think it is worth it-it made us even MORE excited about our baby! We have our a/s next Friday-so we will see if it is accurate, but from the pictures I have-everything looks accurate
My OB doesn't do the A/S scan until 20 weeks. We were dying to know, so we did an elective at 16 weeks for the gender. Very clear that we are having a girl as there was nothing between the legs except the 3 lines. It is completely possible to be very sure at 16 weeks if the baby cooperates. That being said, my little chicklet was very shy and it was nearly 45 minutes before she let us peek. Go for it! It was fun!
Re: has anyone had an early elective for gender and...
I would just wait.
