Homeopathic pediatrician?

Anyone have experience with one? Our pediatrician back home is pretty in-line with my views, but I had a terrible experience with a pediatrician here in France who prescribed antibiotics and a chest x-ray for DD when all she had was a common cold. Just about everyone I've talked to, from friends to DH's co-workers here, says their kids' pediatricians are very pro-antibiotics for everything and very anti-discussing anything with the parents or listening to their opinions. I realize I am not a doctor, but the whole "I'm the doctor, so I am always right" attitude really rubs me the wrong way.

Anyway, all this to say, I just got a recommendation for a "homeopathic pediatrician" in our neighborhood and booked an appointment (DD might have a UTI), but have no idea what to expect. I've already taken DD to get a urine analysis at a lab (per our pedi at home's instructions), so it's not like we're skipping any major steps or cutting corners. I just want a pediatrician who will be a little more user-friendly...

Re: Homeopathic pediatrician?

  • DS goes to a Naturopath like DH and I do. He's great with explaining everything and helps us to decide how to treat any issues we may have. In fact, DS has an appt. with him Wed. morning.

I like that I am treated like a person and not a patient and I like that my opinion is valued and not ignored. I would highly recommend a homeo- or naturopath.

I hope your DD doesn't have a UTI. That would really suck Sad

  • I would check it out. It comes down to the individual practitioner and how you relate to one another and not the label imo. We had a not so great experience with one here. They were more anti-vax than my pro-vax pedi was pro-vax and we just did not connect. It was too extreme but that was just one provider.

Crossing my fingers that A does not have a UTI.

Perhaps you can find a pedi who is an ex-pat?

Thanks. Me, too. But something is definitely up because she keeps complaining whenever she pees. Ugh.

Re: ex-pat. Weirdly, French law prohibits Embassies and such from posting lists of doctors who speak English. This was the only way I could think of to find an American or American-friendly pedi since no one I know had one to recommend. Even on message boards, you're not allowed to post the name of a doctor in response to the question "do you know one who speaks English?"

Well that does make it difficult then. I always use those ex-pat message boards as a reference when I travel to Asia. Are there any local ex-pat mom groups you could infiltrate? Not being satisfied with my child's health care provider and/or having to visit numerous ones to find a good one would drive me bonkers.

  • We go to an MD who practices Integrative Medicine. They are very slow to prescribe any antibiotics and start out with homeopathic options in most cases. I have no advice for you with UTI's or seeing doctors in France. Hope this new doctor will make you feel comfortable and take good care of your girl!
