2nd Trimester

Braxton Hicks- all weekend!

This weekend I started having bh contractions.  It started out kind of on one side then turned into full on contractions.  They weren't painful but very uncomfortable, everything gets rock hard and I get sort of a pressure feeling in my pelvis that makes me want to pee lol!  I read that it's normal for bh to start now to prepare your uterus for real labor, but I ended up having them all weekend long!  Sometimes every few mins to every 20 mins all day Saturday and Sunday.  They got worse when I was doing things, (or arguing lol) but they didn't really get better when I laid down either.  So I called the doc Sunday who said they sounded like bh and to make sure I drank plenty of water (thought I did, but apparently I need to make myself drink a lot more) and if I still had them today to call and get worked in to be checked.  Well this morning I woke up and they are gone?  So my questions are for any of you who have had them, what caused me to have them all day for 2 days straight?  Could it have been something I ate or do I just need to drink more water? Drinking water all day yesterday didn't really stop them, so idk! TIA :)

Edit: So I'm starting to think I'm having a few more today, just not as strong or as many.  Should I call the doctor?

Re: Braxton Hicks- all weekend!

  • I think you should get a second opinion from another Doc.  I have not heard of that happening quite so early.  I am sure everything is okay... but I would ask another Doc to be sure.  But that is just me.

  • From the researching I've already done myself this morning, I have found that bh can happen this early, its not extremely uncommon or anything. It's possible that I was dehydrated and really did not know it, I'm really not drinking as much water as I should apparently.  I thought what I was drinking was fine, but I should really be making an effort to drink more.  Just wondering if anyone else has any experience with bh contractions?
  • I've had BH contractions much more this pregnancy than my first.  They started around 16 weeks and I definitely get them when I'm dehydrated or over-doing it a bit (like vacuuming the house while taking care of a toddler all day). I have an appointment tomorrow and am intending to ask when I need to be worried about them. I didn't have BH contractions until the 3rd trimester with my 1st, but sometimes would have them 10 minutes apart for hours in the weeks before I went into labor.

If you are worried, call your doctor or at least discuss it with a nurse.

  • Thanks, I'm going in this afternoon just to be checked out.  They seem to be subsiding today and lightening up alot compared to this weekend.  I'll see what the doctor has to say in a few minutes, thanks!
  • Please keep us updated. Because i have concerns about this too. I had them all weekend, but i have had them before and didn't worry too much because everyone i talk to says its normal and ok. Even Nurses. Im a FTM and had my first around 17 weeks, which i thought was early but they say just like every person and pregnancy varies so does BH.

  • I get these all day at work as I sit at my desk and then less when I get home. I dont know why I get them so often. Last Thurday and Friday I probably got them every 20 minutes. I am planning on asking my Doc at my next appointment. I think they are normal but not sure about the frequency. I also get them whenever my adreniline raises or if I am arguing with someone.

Curious to know what the doctor says.
