Baby Names

Interesting comments

We've told everyone our DS's name, he's due in 30 days, and I've had some interesting comments.

After hearing that the baby's name will be Clifton Michael, our CPA said "Great name. You could write that on a Harvard application."

The most common rely we get is "He must be named after someone."

Has anyone else had interesting comments.

Re: Interesting comments

  • Well, my DH's aunt asked me yesterday: are there any other names you like aside from the one you picked. To which I say "nope". She then said, well, what else can I call him? I'm like really? You call him by his name. I could care less if you don't like the name we picked. Too F!@#$%^ bad!

  • A women behind me at the grocery store asked what his name was.  When I told her Ian she looked at the cashier and says "well huh, that's different." I just ignored her and went on my way.  So apparently the women was just apparently not used to the name Ian, which I see as a pretty classic/common name, and I'm guessing she didn't like it.

My sister named her son Bentley, which is something I tried to talk her out of.  I have never said I hate his name, or dislike his name, just that it is NMS.  My grandmother calls him by his MN, and it highly offends my sister. Everyone in my family always tell her how f*$king stupid it is for her to call him by his MN when 1.It's not her child and 2.It isn't his name!  Her response is always well she doesn't like Bentley. Some people just don't know when to keep their mouths shut.

P.S. I'm 29 years old and she still insists on spelling my name Steffani instead of Stephanie.SMH.

Thank you AmandaR! My husband is very excited to name his son Clifton, after his grandpa. I think it's a great, masculine choice too.

My thoughts exactly....and IMO, I LOVE Bently.  Have heard it before, and think it is super cute.

  • I reiterate how rude I think it is to comment on a child's name when the child is already born and named.  People seriously need to learn to STFU.  If you can't at least fake a positive reaction, don't ask a stranger what their kids' name is lol

This. That is very rude. I am bewildered by these stories about people wanting to call a child by a name that is not their name... how ridiculous is that? Wow.
